thanks Gayle!
thats the smallest increase for the wt in many, many years. So alltogether about 998.6 million magazines were printed last year. Less then I imagined it would be.
The langauges went up though. I wonder why the printing remained almost the same even though g went up by well over a million per issue?
did anyone notice that at jw-media.org, under "Our Ministry"-the printing and translation statistics have not been updated in over 2 years?
So that's 20,000 more wastes of paper. I kind of feel bad for the trees that have to die for this stupidity.
Most of the paper products used is recycled paper anyways. So yeah, the trees were already dead.
Wood for paper production is grown in monocultured plantations, and result in the destruction of indiginous woodlands, grasslands, moors and heaths. In addition the inks used emit solvents and create a significant waste stream in both thier production and use.
The environmental impact of printing this useless rubbish is considerable. I thought god was going bring to ruin those ruining the Earth!
It only takes one to see the stupidity
Me
Just a question, since they used to produce two public watchtowers and two public awakes (4 mags) every month, have printing volumes declined in real terms since they switched to one public WT and one public Awake? The publisher only WT must have a print run of no more than 10 million I would guess.
Saphy thats a good point. There are different numbers now for different publications, distributed separately. Anyone wanna crunch the numbers?
Each publisher gets a personal copy of each issue. Thus using last year's publisher figure of 7.5 million that comes to 22.5 million.
There are over 8 million Bible studies- each one gets all 3 magazines =24 million.
This leaves about 37 million magazines per month for the field.
To estimate the printing for the public w (using last years figures) =about 15.5 million, that is one copy per publisher + 1 copy per bible student.
This shows that free magazines are still in demand.
