Why do you suppose so many people believe in an immortal soul?
Fear of the unknown... and the inablitity to accept the fact that they aren't any more capable of cheating death than any other living creature. Hubris. Man is smarter and has the ability to reason. Therefore dying can't be the end. There "HAS" to be something more.
If there is something more, then we'll find out when we die. Until then there's no way to prove any one belief of immortality or heaven or hell or populating planets out in space. It's all conjecture and delusion.

undercover: I recall my Dad "informally witnessing" to an old friend. Specifically, he explained to him that Hell was just a lie of Christendom. The gentleman responded, "Whew! That is a load off my mind. I'm glad I don't have to worry about that!"

That's sort of the reaction of some people who became JWs. The relief of "knowing" that they would not be eternally tormented drew them in.
Ironically though, while they were relieved to escape eternal torment personally, nothing made them sit up and take notice when they were then told that if they didn't accept JWism they would be destroyed with 99.9 percent of the population.
Which goes back to the hubris point. People are relieved when they personally won't suffer, but to actually take time to think about the rest of humanity being destroyed and then it's not as important. And then the WTS (or any other cult) has got ya. Looking out for #1, you step in #2 and you get taken for a ride by the bullshit peddlers.

Why fear soemthing that there is no reason to fear since it is unknown?
Death is peace, why fear it?

Smoe interesting studies have been done on "near death expereinces", who knows?

Don't ask me. Ask those insist on some kind of immortality. They're the ones who refuse to face the inevitable.

Exactly. Who knows? No matter how 'interesting', it doesn't prove nuthin'

Agreed 100% with UC. No one gets out of life alive - we all die forever, just as did our caveman brothers and sisters, and all other species of life on this planet.
So we all go to the JW sort of hell - dead forever. Not a pleasant thought, but prob better than spending it with St Peter and sitting around bored on the clouds while earth turns with millions of dying children, earthquakes, famines, floods - while looking over to the next cloud and seeing Yahweh/Jesus/Allah/Name your God sitting there twiddling his thumbs and letting his creation perish by the billions. Cause if I had to watch that sort of maniacal indifference for eternity, I would be confused whether I was in heaven or hell anyway. And I don't think they allow harp-players to kill god even if he is ignoring his creation, and he would be deserving. [and is I suppose now - if he is]
On the other hand - can god die. SUppose that depends of which believer you ask - some say yes, some say no. If he dies can he go to hell? Some say yes, some say now. If he goes to hell can he get out? Some say yes, some say no.
This theology shit is confusing as hell. Oh wait - the topic is hell isn't it? Well, went around in a circle didn't we? Believers are used to that I suppose. LOL

Short answer for those who don't read my posts anymore due to my lack of faith: Yes and NO.

The whole notion had to come from somewhere right? where?
Exactly. Who knows? No matter how 'interesting', it doesn't prove nuthin'
Well, if you want proof I guess you are just gonna have to die, LOL !
I can wait to find out for sure ;)
