No. But what, specifically, is your point? This sounds like a book I would be interested in reading, but I can't comment intelligently unless you elaborate on your purpose in posting the quote.
Best regards,
George
I would rather live in a world where my life is surrounded by mystery
than live in a world so small that my mind could comprehend it.
- Harry Emerson Fosdick
Do you mean how it can seem that certain unique ideas in math or science sometimes pop up simultaneously in different parts of the world?
Science's biggest mystery is the nature of consciousness.
All we really know about it is it has something to do with the head rather than the foot.
The book ask "Is it possible that consciousness is some sort of quantum effect?"
Is human awareness a privileged access to the inside of the quantum world?
If someone lived a trillion X longer than you, and had a billion X more reasoning ability would he come to the same conclusions as you?
Very vague question, that...but consider this - surrounding every neuron in your brain is a sheath of lipids (fat), which have some very remarkable quantum properties that science is only just beginning to explore. As far as we can tell today, these lipid sheaths somehow directly modulate activity at the electronic level in the actual neural impulses, owing to as-yet-not-understood quantum forces and energies. So what do you think of that? My feeling is that the human brain is a lot more complex than we can imagine, and that thought is definitely something that happens at the sub-atomic, possibly even the sub-electronic level, where everything descends into chaos.
The earlier in the forenoon you take the sun bath, the greater will be the beneficial effect, because you get more of the ultra-violet rays, which are healing. - The Golden Age
A quote from Albert Einstein:
"A human being is part of the whole, called by us 'Universe'; a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something seperate from the rest--a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness.
This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection to a few persons nearest to us.
Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.
Nobody is able to achieve this completely but the striving for such achievement is in itself, a part of the liberation and a foundation for the inner security." End of quote.

Wow! Einstein expressing eastern philosophy! Is it from a book he wrote? Also, do you know the year that he said that? I wonder if he got it from the east, or from his study of the universe.
Thanks SS
SS,
I don't know where you can find the quote, it is from a book I'm reading, that quotes him alot.
Albert is quoted because he saught reality all his life.

Dewilt,
I have read a lot about the subject and concluded that there are an abundance of theories. For a good summary of many of them try http://www.thymos.com/science/qc.html
I will be one of the first to agree that science cannot totally disprove that God exists (and the debate about the evolution of conciousness is one of the proimary arguments used by creationists) but once again the onus is on the creationists and God himself to show that he exists - especially if humans are expected to live under all the demands imposed on them by the so called "holy-books" of all the faiths in the world.
(note - I use the term faiths not religions. This is because many of the people on this board think they can say they are spiritual and not religious. The "opium" is very strong...)
gd,
This thread isn't about God's exsistence is it?
It's about consciousness that's all. I find it very intriguing to try to imagine just what is conscious thought and does our mind have quantum operating ability? What do you think about that?
