LEAVING WT: I agree this book was a very good expose of the religion. I felt like I was reading the life experience of somebody who escaped from the iron curtain! The religion is like a totalitarian government. When I read it I was already 'out' so all it did was reinforce what I already knew or suspected. Glad I disentangled myself from this trap! I wish all the lurkers well.

I, too, read Ray Franz' book "Crisis of Conscience" after I was "out". It was an eye-opening book in so many ways....
What I found most interesting about my first read of the book was this - much of what I read provided "Ah - HAH!" moments.
Ray Franz confirmed, or cleared up much of what had underlain the issues of which I had merely seen the surface facade. So many times when reading the book, I found myself thinking, "Oh, so THAT'S what was going on behind that weird false prophecy about "Armageddon"/persecution of the Malawian Witnesses/rumors about homosexuality at Bethel/claims that "some" people - brothers - high up in the Society had planted "apostate" teachings in certain books [that was a BIG rumor in the '70's...]
Ah, what a revelation of the totally man-made inner workings of a big corporation pretending to be a religion...

Yes!! Very awesome post.... I still feel so soooo very blessed to have come on here and learned about that book... (thanks flipper you were one of the first to post that book as well as Steven Hassan's books. Thanks hope you all the very best! :)
