I refer to it in hyphernated marks (i.e. "the Truth") - does this offend anyone? I understand that it's loaded language, but it's loaded language that those who are still inside know and respond to. The reality, of course, is that it couldn't be further from "the Truth", but I'm thinking purely in terms of reaching out to people still inside who are curious. Let me know whether this is a JWN faux pas.

True Cedars, if I EVER do actually use it, in will ONLY been through hyphens. Amazing how that constant repetition will become ingrained in one's mind.

If my husband uses it, I ask "You mean the Jehovah's Witnesses?"

    or

"No-one has the truth. It stands on it's own."

I know when I type stuff on here, I will type out "the truth" then I'll replace it with "the JW's" or "the witnesses". If you said it a lot, especially since youth, it's almost impossible for it not to come out.

Other cults use the phrase? Which, may I ask?

I almost got caught by my mom the other day when we were on the phone, I said something about someone not being in the truth and then stopped and corrected myself, saying, well not the truth and she was like, what do you mean?? so i stammered out an excuse about my husband (non-dub) being in the room, didn't want to offend him, etc.

I'm with Wobble on this one.

I segued from using that term and not using that term in about a day. Or less. It's a knee-jerk term we had drummed into us at every opportunity.

By the way, it is not "the Truth", but "THE Truth." The WTS makes the capitalized definite article very clear to it's shorn sheep, even if not always in print, but they always do in practice.

Well, yeah. Quit speaking their cult language and speak the truth.

Otherwise, you're just enabling them by giving credence to their bullshit terms which are lies.

Why give any credence to a lie term to defeat that lie term?

Even though still bodily "in," I can't bring myself to use the term ever again. If I want to know how long someone has been a JW, I ask How long has ----- been a Jehovah's Witness?

I agree. I never call it that. Depending on how sarcastic I am at the time and who I'm talking to, I either call it "The Faith" or "The Cult".
