There's also that group in the Caribbean. Can't think of their name right offhand.

They ask a question that they like the answer to.
But i would guarantee they will never write an article
"Are Jehvah's Witnesses a second Adventist religion?"
Because they know damn well that would spell T.R.O.U.B.L.E!!!

This always confused me, i.e. the difference between a sect and a religion? When does a sect become a religion, or vice versa? Jehovah's Witnesses ARE in fact a fundamentalist protestant sect/religion, in that they are an offshoot of the Second Adventists, and they even praise Martin Luther in their literature.
Under "Protestant", my Oxford dictionary says: "member of one of the Western churches that are seperated from the Roman Catholic church". How does that definition not apply to Jehovah's Witnesses?
I've never understood the Society's fascination with distancing itself from any attempts at categorization, whether it is fending off words such as "fundamentalist", "protestant" or "sect". They seem to want to portray themselves as an entirely new concept in faith, never before seen in world history - one that defies definition. The lack of humility in accepting secular categorization reflects the pious attitudes of the men at the very top.

Cedars - Good point about trying to separate themselves from categorization. They don't even like to be referred to as a religion.

LostGeneration said,
[Jehovah's Witnesses] in fact are the splinter group, both off of the Protestants and the Second adventist movement.
JWs are a splinter group in another sense too. They broke away from the original Bible Students when that shrewd Judge Rutherford found a way to get around the last will and testament of C.T. Russell. That was a big split.

During the 60`s I was going door to door with the congrgation overseer at the time, the terminology they then used escapes me now,and we came to a place he described as a breakaway movement of the society, The" Beroean Bible Students" he told me at the time they were stuck in the mindset of Pastor russell, however since i`ve looked up the BBS,I cant find any reference to the WTB&TS Any thoughts ?

Has anyone compiled a comprehensive list of groups that have split off from Russell's original Bible Students, and other groups that have split from them?
I wonder just how large the large family tree really is.

Isn't it because the Society wants to be the only true religion, and every other group is false religion belonging to Satan? If people want to have the truth and get everlasting life, they have to join up with the WTS.

Hmm let's see. Christian Millennial Fellowship was the first breakaway group in 1906, Layman's Home Missionary Group. Probably at least a dozen Bible Students Groups still following Russell's Studies In The Scriptures. The Dawn Bible Students with their own printery. The Rutherford Only Witnesses.

I suspect that it is not a lie. Misleading, yes. Dishonest, yes. But not an actual lie.
The trick is that 'Jehovah’s Witnesses' didn't arise until after they had split with/from the IBS groups. Note the capitalised Witnesses too. That dates the group they are talking about, (Jehovah’s Witnesses), to well after the splits.
The recent splinter groups are not affiliated with the WT and are considered Apostate, therefore not 'Jehovah’s Witnesses', therefore not part of "a united global brotherhood".
The article makes them look squeaky clean, but it's all done with mirrors ............ as usual
