Unsafe Cars in Field Service

Tell me your stories. I used to get quite pissed when I was pressured to ride in an unsafe vehicle for FS. When my daughter was little, I was under constant pressure to let her ride without a car seat. I wouldn't budge, and one time they even suggested they would not be able to find room, so I offered to go home instead. I always found that quite ignorant and unloving. What about bloodguilt and our precious gifts?

But I have watched many times when young mothers would cave to this and carry their children on their laps---even tiny babies. I NEVER allowed that in my car and told them if they didn't have a proper carseat they could not ride with me. Like I need a dead baby on my conscience! And another thing I saw a lot of, were young sisters not securing the car seat properly because there was no room. So they'd put their little one in the seat, but use a shoulder belt without a lock to secure the seat. The seat would just pivot all over.

Then there was this insane sister who drove this huge ungodly van. Everyone would pile into it, but the last row of seats were not attached to the floor! So with every stop, the entire seat would fall forward. Then she'd say in this self righteous voice that it was either that or they couldn't use the van. Because of pressure, I ended up in this beast's van but wouldn't sit in the unsecured seats. Still, had something happened, the brothers in the seat and the seat itself would become flying projectiles.

Such is the ignorance of these mouth breathers. They just think that holy spirit is with them and will protect them.

My wife took our son with her out in service one time when he was small and the old couple they rode with had a junk-mobil, when they went around a corner the back door flung open, if my wife had not had a firm grip on my son he would have rolled out the back seat...

The angels flying in mid heaven probably had a firm grip on him.

In Oz the cars have to pass rego inspection every year, so the cars themself are usually not an issue. Although many were old. ONe practice I never understood was that many would take their seatbelts off as soon as they were off the main roads. I have no idea why as I never noticed my seatbelt, and never had a problem with it, but I didn't like it, both because I was concerned for them and because they would become flying projectiles in a crash. It wasn't like we were going slow on these back roads either.

I also recall the idea that angels/god was watching us in service meant that we were protected and we probably took more risks, like two young girls going to doors where the car group couldn't see them, thinking we had divine protection. Along with teenage feelings of immortality, this was dangerous. I do recall some of the young brothers would always insist they go with a sister to doors that couldn't be seen, or places that looked a bit shady, so there was some sense there in my cong at least.

LOL, so young brothers wanted to go with sisters to doors that can't be seen, and you chalk this up to sense. Were these sisters young and pretty?

    Just teasing.

This made my afternoon. I wish I could find the thread with the video of a minivan and a ton of illegal aliens jumped out and someone said that was a mistake, it was actually a ton of JWs. I often wonder what neighbors think when a ton of JWs jump out of a minivan.

olord. This wasn't even a minivan. It was one of those old fashioned rolling boxes.

I must say, our elders have been quite proactive in this respect.

There is a pioneer sister who is a terrible driver- dangerous. So the elders actually FORBADE her to drive in FS.

Unfortunately, this leaves the good drivers with the task of driving this sister around, and----you probably already guessed it---- she doesn't contribute A DIME to the other pioneer's carfare!

    What a spiritual paradise!

Lol, they were often literally bros/sisters/cousins so I really hope not! I was the only one not related to anyone else!

The only thing the brothers were concerened about in a congregation I attended years ago called Woodly Park, wass that it had 4 doors. It could be unsafe, no registration tags, and it was fine. I did get a ration of crapola when I bought a 2 door. Why did I buy a 2 door? Well my business required that I drive alot, so I bought a car I could afford new, knowing I had to be reliable. Their take? I wasn't thinking spiritually.
