wha happened?
yes it's in 2nd Romans, or the 9th Letter of John, right after the scripture that says that masturbation makes God cry

Crazy stuff. Most of my ex-congregation have had dinged up/banged up cars. There was this particular elder that always offered to give me a ride to service on his tattered F-150. First I usually struggled or over-hopped to get inside, banging my head in the process, the door step was completely gone. Not to mention he was quite an agressive driver, (as he was always running late to meetings for service, being an elder mind you!) so the whole family including myself shifted left and right with each turn. Not just an unsafe situation, but his whole family was quirky.
Another case was this old ministerial servant widower around his 80s and almost deaf. He was a pretty unsafe driver, everyone would rush in order to avoid his car, and skip a parking space at hall. Everyone would wait until he was done parking/leaving to even move an inch. He was stubborn and wouldn't let go easy of his car until that same elder I mentioned banned him from driving (haha!) after he banged up a sister's car in service, later another worldly persons car. He had rides to and from hall.. But at one point he began driving again, taking a study home a few times! The study must've been crapping himself!

New Chapter...you hit on a subject that has always been important to me. Because of accidents I've witnessed and had to investigate, seatbelts and Kids in car seats are must in our household.
I could go on at length about this but I won't, I'll just make a short list.
We were talked into letting our 6 year old son go to a Baseball game with an elder and his family. We were told later by someone who saw them on the freeway that they had propped our son up on the front engine compartment, sitting backwards up next to the windshield inside the van they were riding in ...no seat, no seat belt, no child car seat, just flying down the freeway at 55-60 mph unharnessed and at the mercy of whatever might have happened. I shudder to this day at the thought of our little boy in such danger while we were so stupid as to trust that clod with his life. (this Elder is on the Blood Liason Committee by the way)
There is a very prominent Elder in our area who's family is full of missionaries, regular pioneers, Bethelites etc. and he plays a large role in putting on the District Assemblies in our area. Two of his Grown Kids have left "the truth" and one of them actually frequents this site. Anyway we were recently at dinner with the elders son and daughter and in the course of the conversation they mentioned that even though their Mom is a long time regular Pioneer and hauls car groups in service all the time, they never had Auto Insurance and would often even let their vehicle registration lapse...constantly getting tempory ones so that they could save money. They said he refused to pay for insurance and his wife never warned anyone that they were riding in an uninsured unlicensed vehicle. She did this for decades.
As a kid, I was riding in a car group and the drivers pretty little 4 or 5 year old girl was just standing between the two front seats. The driver made a sudden stop and the girl flew face first into the dash board and was hurt quite badly. Not long after that she had to have one of her beautiful big blue eyes removed because of a tumor. I often wonderd if it had something to do with the time she hit the dashboard. When I see her today I'm reminded of that incident.
Another Sister I know who's non Witness husband is a Doctor, was quite shocked...nearlly stumbled, when she got into a fender bender in Service. She somehow believed that Jehovah wouldn't let anything happen to her while she was in the ministry. This woman is a LPN and is not what you'd call stupid ...but it amazes me how gullable some people become when they become Witnesses.

Oh EXW---I am just cringing at that story about your son. How dare they. They did not take Ceaser's law seriously and they did not take bloodguilt seriously--but they were not going to pressure me into putting my precious darling in unnecessary danger. It caused a lot of awkward silences and irritations. It's so much easier to make up a car group if the stupid moms would just hold their kids!
My neighbor's 3 month old baby died when the carseat malfunctioned. It was heartbreaking, because she was consciencious about that car seat. the verdict was that she simply hadn't buckled it properly, and she lives with that. A young man in our area died in a car accident in service. Why they think they have some kind of divine protection is just a testament to how powerful and dangerous this cult is.

A babysitter sister (ooh that's hard to say) was watching little children while the mother was out in service. She took them to the mall .... two kids to the front seat .... belted together!!!!!!!!
One old brother with a car the size of a kingsize bed, would drive thru red lights a lot and twice backed into a water filled ditch! He finally died. Thank god!

Band on the Run
If the WTBTS could be held liable for accidents, FS cars would be the best. Mercedes! The elders would inspect registration and insurance papers every time. Seatbelts would always be used. A child car safety seat expert would deliver a tutorial. Liability can be a very good thing.

We had jws that advertised that they didn't carry car insurance. I would not ride with them. No one rode in my vehicle without putting on their seatbelt and keeping it on. All babies had proper child seats and they were used. I would not ride in vehicles where people did not wear seatbelts or use child seats. I used my car a lot and was not afraid to go by myself.

I remember as a young child riding in a pioneer's car that had a huge hole in the floorboards. I liked to watch the road go by under the car in service.
