JW Claims About Who Will Be Saved

We on this forum understand that the Watchtower Society will not hesitate to lie to the public in order to put its best foot forward. Many of us know that the Society's media website, http://www.jw-media.org contains quite a bit of misleading information, such as on the shunning issue. Under the link to "Their Beliefs" -> "Frequently Asked questions" ( http://www.jw-media.org/beliefs/beliefsfaq.htm ) they ask the question, "Do you believe that you are the only ones who will be saved?" They answer "No" with a misleading explanation.

Here is a link to an essay I've written on the subject, "Do Jehovah's Witnesses Claim That They Are the Only Ones Who Will Be Saved?", which proves that the Society is lying:

    Excellent essay.

I, too, noticed the misinformation included in their PR site. What a load of BS. It's deceitful, that's what it is.

    Hi, Alan!

I believe Witnesses fall into two categories on this question.

Category One-ers believe but for precious few exceptions, at Armageddon God will destroy everyone but Jehovah’s Witnesses. Period.

Category Two-ers are convinced there is a definite protective measure from the closest association with Jehovah’s Witnesses, but believe that ultimately who lives and who dies at Armageddon is beyond their knowledge. Otherwise how could God or Jesus be the ultimate judge?

The information you cite on the jw-media web page is a repeat from the old Jehovah’s Witnesses in the Twentieth Century brochure. The newer version with the same information is a brochure called Jehovah’s Witnesses Who Are They?—What Do They Believe? I believe these two brochures accurately reflect the views of the Category Two-ers.

In the strictest sense I believe practically all citations about who lives and dies at Armageddon could be argued as in harmony with the view of Category Two-ers. But reality is that most Jehovah’s Witnesses believe as Category One-ers. Since this general effect can hardly be viewed as coin incidental then, regardless of good debating skills no intelligent person could conclude other than the Society wants everyone to believe that only Jehovah’s Witnesses will have God’s protection at Armageddon.

I am familure with the two different catagories. When I was still attending meetings this was always one of those grey areas meaning it depended on who you were conversing with. Some would say nothing and avoid the issue or not coment when I said anything like "I'm sure, how can anyone think that only there religion will survive the great tribulation?" And then there were those who agreed. There isn't as much unity as described. I found that out long time ago.

Extremely interesting essay, Alan. I always find it fascinating how different the private face of the Watchtower is from the public face. I would say that most of us goats are fooled pretty successfully most of the time. I know I have been taken in more than once.

Alan, the essay you posted is extremely informative and shows the WT's real stand regarding this issue. Their PR spin is to keep the general public from knowing exactly the darker teachings that are taught to new ones studying and to the rank and file. If your were to ask any child, or young person attending meetings today, they would only remember the fearful teachings of destruction at the hands of a "loving god". This is good information to forward to Dateline.

Actually, ARoarer, I put this essay together as a result of a discussion with Dateline.

”Become members of an international brotherhood known for cleanness and good manners, the worldwide congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. In harmony with Ephesians 4:24, these sincere Christians have “put on the new personality which was created according to God’s will in true righteousness and loyalty.” Soon the world will be filled with such people because these will be the only ones who will survive and live forever.” Watchtower99 6/15 page 6

"Is it presumptuous of Jehovah’s Witnesses to point out that they alone have God’s backing? Actually, no more so than when the Israelites in Egypt claimed to have God’s backing in spite of the Egyptians’ belief, or when the first-century Christians claimed to have God’s backing to the exclusion of Jewish religionists."Watchtower 01 6/1 page 16

“Of all the organizations claiming to be Christian, only Jehovah’s Witnesses both think upon his name and magnify it among the nations.” Watchtower 92 12/1 page 17

“In fact, only Jehovah’s Witnesses today follow the example of Jesus’ early disciples and help people worldwide to ‘call on the name of Jehovah and be saved.’ They alone can truly be called “a people for his name.” Watchtower 85 1/15 page 29

”However, every person on earth will soon be involved when Jehovah executes the false gods of this world and their worshipers: “The gods that did not make the very heavens and the earth are the ones who will perish from the earth and from under these heavens.” (Jeremiah 10:11) There will be no bystanders then. There will only be those who are witnesses for the true God and those who are not.” Watchtower 88 2/1 page 20

“Far from lulling people to sleep with sweet-sounding platitudes about peace, they diligently strive to awaken them to the reality that today is a time for war.” Watchtower 99 10/1 page 14

”The message is clear: If we want to survive Armageddon, we must remain spiritually alert and keep the symbolic garments that identify us as faithful Witnesses of Jehovah God.” Watchtower 99 12/1 page18

    Hi Alan,

    This part was hauntinly familiar:

:We look at the outward appearance; God looks at the heart. He sees accurately and judges mercifully. He has committed judgment into Jesus’ hands, not ours.

They must all know this by rote as this is just what the JWs I studied with told me. We had endless converstaions aside from their little book/lesson plan (thanks to all thos e questions I always asked). Oh yes, we are all to be judged by God/Jesus only. I wish I'd have had all those quotes then to show them I know they believe otherwise.

Great essay showing the "real" answer to that question. Thanks for posting it.

    Regards,
    Julie
