Jesus loves American Football

Tammy: My take is that it has nothing to do with me. If someone wants to thank God or Jesus for their touchdown, then that is between them. Not me. It doesn't bother me at all, though. Plus, I'm sure there's no lack of pride or arrogance or ego on those football fields, lol... a little humility is probably a good thing :)

You cannot be serious. How is that humility? He didn't cure cancer. He didn't solve the world's hunger crisis. He didn't take down an evil dictator. He didn't just experience the birth of his first child. While I'm no Christian, I could understand someone of faith taking a knee under one of the above scenarios.

But, no, he threw a pass. In a game.

His egotism is in no way diminished by giving a shout-out to "the big guy." If anything, his ego stresses the seams when he thanks god for showing him special consideration.... again, while playing a f*cking GAME.

God: "Let's see, emaciated children are dying by the thousands right now... but, oh, wait - Tebow is on the field!! Let's grant that guy another 15 yard pass completion! Good job, m'boy - you're welcome! Now back to the kiddos... hmmmm, well, no they're suffering due to man's own failings. Better let that ride."

I can't express with words how sick this makes me but "Tim Tebow is a pretentious facking douche canoe" is a good place to start.

Well, I was speaking in general, since I didn't even know who Tebow was until yesterday.

But I guess it depends on your perspective.

You think someone is arrogant for thinking God might answer their prayers, or help them with something. "What makes them so special?", kind of thing.

I think it shows some humilitiy that someone would thank God for help or strength or focus (or whatever they're thanking Him for), instead of taking all the credit for themselves.

Now whether it is true or not, is none of my business. They aren't hurting anyone by thanking God for something. So it is between them and God. Has nothing to do with me at all.

    Peace,

    Tammy

"And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full."

So as a Christian, you're saying you feel emotional indifference (or even a little admiration) that one of your fellows believes god is intervening to grant him a little favor on game day and makes a display of it? Meanwhile, this same omniscient being (god, not Tebow) must've sat quietly and watched while an innocent child was abducted at the age of 11, held captive and raped over the next 18 years? Undoubtedly, many were praying for this child. Regardless, Tebow makes a weekly spectacle out of how certain he is that god is personally assisting him on the field.... and that's admirable?

SBC, I am saying that I don't care if someone chooses to point a finger up at God, or bow a knee, or cross themselves, in thanks for whatever sporting feat they just accomplished. I don't care at all. Whether God had a hand in it or not. I respect (admire is not the right word here) that they are not ashamed to do so, even though they might be on the receiving end of criticism. And as far as I can see from sports guys who do it, they aren't all 'hey thanks God that I'm so great, and that I'm not such a loser as all my opponents" (which is a more apt comparison to the pharisee on the streetcorner). Just a quick 'thanks God, or thanks Jesus'.

I don't know why anyone would get all annoyed or offended by it, unless they want to be offended. (or perhaps unless they were the ones who failed to stop the touchdown, lol)

Now I don't know what this Tebow quarterback is doing that has people up in arms... like I said; never heard of him before yesterday. But as long as they are not hurting anyone else, then I don't care what people do - religious-wise or otherwise.

    It is not my business.

And no one knows what Tebow or others pray for, or do, to help others, in addition to giving thanks.

In either case, it doesn't sound like its Tebow you have a problem with... just God, if God answers that prayer and not others that involve people being hurt. In which case I would refer you to one of the longest debates I have ever seen on JWN... as soon as I can go and find it.

    Peace,

    Tammy
