I second everything Blondie said.
I knew a gentleman who was 1 of 12 and he told me he had a wonderful childhood.
They were poor, but his parents made the best of it.
They sure couldn't take any European vacations.

I think she is seriously creepy. The wierd hairdo and the creepy baby voice.
Totally. Stepford-like, zombie-ish. Reminds me of a lot of jw women (not all of course), including one I called the cops on for sneaking into my apartment building. Her response was, "Is that because you have your own religion," in a voice comparable to a Telletubby.
Article about creepy baby voices
It appears my remark was interpreted by some to mean I was "just" complaining about them having too many babies. I don't know if it's common knowledge then that this is a cult with very wt-like aspects?
I am commenting about the cult and the many consequences, this being one of them. Her reasons for doing so, in the context of her belief system [as Aunt Bee posted] is delusional.
She's a sick lady and I hope she gets help before she breeds more future cult members.
they're making a living off TV, and they forbit it? is that not being a hypocrite?
They're making a good living, and people donate $$$$ for them, and they still buy everything used?

The religion they belong to is quite cult like, I watched their show and their religion forbids dancing and couples have their first kiss at their wedding. I don't think the Dubs forbid dancing and we all know those young Dub couples have done a few things before he wedding ceremony.
shirley, are you originally from bergen county, nj?
I think that now they are just feeding off of the media attention that they are simply doing what everyone expects of them - to have more babies. Kind of like any Kardashian family member who decides to embark on a high publicity relationship. It's what the public expects of them, and they are more than happy to provide.
I don't think they are forbidden to watch tv, but do not seem to watch live shows. I tape all my tv shows and if I could completely eliminate ads, I'd do that too. They have access to the internet but it is restricted (quite a few parents do that for nonreligious reasons).
The Duggars are conservative Christians , and due to their fundamentalist biblical beliefs, they practice the following: only watching wholesome family television on DVD, and various historical events; restricted Internet use;
just my 2 cents : I agree with blondie, but in this case I think it is a bit more then that. Listen to an active JW parent talk about how they are raising their children......you would think we have presants and parties every day. But the reality is quite diffrent regardless of how loved or joyful our parents make it.
out of 19 or so kids how many will be gay? how many girls wanna wear pants? or dance? like seriously they can not even kiss before marriage. there will be some serious saddness for at least one of the duggar children who WILL at one point act out (or just be who they are ) and will have to go thru not living up to their parents high control religious beliefs. There will at the very least be tears, trauma and heartache ... pointless stupid heartache.
I am sorry the Duggars and their children are in a cult that is similar to the JWs. The good hope is that because there are 19 children, a few of them may defect and speak against their religion. We'll wait and see.
As far as women in their 40s having children or having many children or having miscarraiges . . . . well, I am not going to cast stones. Miscarraiges are a normal part of a fertile woman's life. I have heard that 20 - 25% of all pregnancies, end in miscarraige. So, Duggar has had 2. She is lucky. Women who have children in their 40s are doing so with some risk to themselves and to their babies. Sarah Palin had all healthy children, until she hit her mid-40s. It's just nature's way. The eggs are getting older. That being said, I do know a few women who had kids in their 40s, and all turned out well I know women who had kids in their teens, and had retarded children. We are throwing the dice.
They are able to care well for their kids. So, I feel worse for the teenaged mothers who are having welfare babies. If you don't like the Duggars, don't watch them. I don't.
My gm had 10 kids and was having her last at menopause that occurred around 50. Women used to do this, however it was very common for the eldest to be raising the youngest b/c mother was just plain worn out. My hubby's family has family's with 10 -11 kids. Large family's can be wonderful , but not always. I had a jws friend whose family had 5 kids. Most of the kids ended up having only 1 max 2 of their own b/c they hated sharing everything with their siblings.
