WOW! Just wow.
Myth: Parents who are Jehovah’s Witnesses force their children to follow their faith.
Fact: Witness parents strive to inculcate love for God in their offspring, just as the Bible commands them to. Nevertheless, they realize that when a child becomes an adult, he or she will make a personal choice with regard to worship.

Myth: Muggers force victims to hand over their valuables.
Fact: Muggers strive to persuade citizens to give of their own free will, just as compassion motivates some. Nevertheless, they realize that when a gun is pressed against one's temple, each citizen will make a personal choice with regard to being generous.
i was told at an early age that if i didn't live by their rules - which included all the meetings and familystudy, before meal prayers and service andall that - i would be free to leave with the clothes on my back.
at 15 i moved out.
on more than one occassion she took the TV with her, just so that I was not enjoying anything.
Just hope it wasn't a 50" flat screen. How would she fit it in the car?
This is so dishonest. Hopefully they do an internet search and find JWN to set matters straight!
I really am beginning to despise the "public" editions. It enables them to completely falsify JW's. "Sure! JW parents don't FORCE a child to accept their beliefs. That would be cruel, wrong, and would take away they free will. But as long as they accept whatever answer we give them when they question, they can still still live under our roof and accosiate with us. WHAT LOVE!"
These new articles are really full of lies. It's incredible how current JW's won't bat an eye at them....maybe because many don't read them themselves.
When I got out of the WTS, I got into mainstream Christianity. One of the preachers calls himself the Family Man, and he has a national radio show. One of his shows was on adolescents and how they want to test the limits and argue with their parents. He said that this was all part of the adolescent's development in the brain. Adolescents are developing critical thinking and deductive reasoning skills. And, as a result, they love to argue their point. Becuase they are trying to be independent of their parents, their parents & parents' beleifs are also a prime target for their arguments. Instead of yelling or saying, "Because I said so . . " parents should work through the adolescent's arguments with them. Anyway, the preacher also talked about adolescents that want to go to another church. The preacher actually encouraged the adolescent attend a different church. He told a story of his girl who wanted to attend a different church. So, she chose a black, gospel church. She went to it for months & months, and had a blast.
This Family Man had a different take then the WTS! I was blown away. (his only rule was that she attend a "christian" church . .. so don't get the idea that he was totally open-minded....)
I wish I had questioned my faith when I was an adolescent...
yea it's sick and although I wasn't raised in this wacky religion, I could see what the kids went through in the hall. My business partner back in the 90's had a teenager who gave him grief but really he just saw holes in the deal. When the kid finally got the nerve to say no to meetings, they actually got along better. No more lies.
However that statement about not forcing them to meetings just contrdicts everything they teach and write to their cult members. They don't even try to hide the lie anymore
