I'm an atheist but I've recently been curious enough to sit quietly on the hard wooden pews of a local and very simple English village church - it was sweet, humble and surprisingly calming.

Now, how exactly is this monstrosity supposed to motivate anyone?!

What does it tell us about the mentality of the religions leaders? Does this look like a place of worship? Somewhere introspective to contemplate the Divine? Or does it tell you that the Watchtower is a business?

Does it make you nostalgic for a time when you had all the answers and lots of 'friends'? Does it bring feelings of bitterness, betrayal or perhaps just laconic indifference?

    Over to you . . .

I remember when we had a 'remodel' people would comment how Jehovah blessed us with this 'beautiful new hall'. I kept thinking, beautiful? Tacky and boring is what it was.

It reminds me of the time we were cleaning the hall. A sister went from the bathroom to the chairs with the same rag. I said, "did you just clean the bathroom with that?"

Looks like a rental hall in a cheap Hotel where Multi-Level-Marketers meet to recruit suckers! This KHall brings me back 30 years ago before we renovated our KHall, only to sell it months later to another "cult" and then we built a brand new one...That kept us busy for a while and started the money flowing into the coffre of the WT. The KHall was paid off in 10 years and it has much more value then the old one we sold off.

40 years ago (or so) a new KH was built in Oklahoma City.

One of the volunteers on the building crew had a brand new wood routing tool. He painstakingly made templates of verious Hebrew letters and proceeded (without any real permission) to rout inset Hebrew letters all over every surface of wood trim in that hall.

It was absolutely the tackyest mess that we had ever seen.

The kicker was that none of it actually made any sense in Hebrew (except for an occasional YHWH) - it was just random letters.

Well, now that sounds like a story that needs to be told here -

The funny thing about it is the JWs are such an OT religion. Constant banging on the drum about "the Israelites did this and that." The one thing they sure did is build a luxurious temple. And according to the bible all of this was the big guy upstairs telling them to bling it up with gold and silver and everything else.

So today Jah doesn't want blinged out buildings to prove how great his is? Instead he wants a bunch of windowless crackerboxes? With cheap furniture and carpet inside? Oh that's right, the WT needs money more than their God does. If YHWH/Jehovahs is up there, he's gotta be pretty disappointed looking down on his real estate empire.
