You are right, of course, AGuest! My point, though, is that a person's "not listening" is not always a case of his devaluing the thoughts of the one doing the speaking. As in the case of the "absent minded professor", sometimes people are so lost in thought that the outside fades from notice.
Granted, such times are still aggravating, but the motive behind it is far more innocuous.
