Let's be Gamaliel about this. There is no reason to sensor this stuff. If it is false, he will crash and burn and 'come to nothing'.
There is a lot here that sounds credible. Things like private cartoons by Bethelites (yes, I remember!), quiet disbelief and rebellion, and infighting. Yet, sounding credible doesn't mean any of it is true.
Oh, and the deal with 'phoning in'? Be careful. I've been surprized for some time that Bethel hasn't attempted some sort of counterintelligence move to identify and df 'apostates'.
There have been lots and lots of unseen rebellions within Bethel, across many decades. .......... and the Watchtower Society, sick cult that it is, still goes on. They can fire, layoff, dismiss and vilify ANYBODY. They can hire new lawyers. They can hire new accountants. They can contract to have all magazines and literature printed by an outside firm. They can enlist 'petty tyrant' elders locally to sub for for any C.O.'s they fire, even ALL of them. Tell me who you think is indispensible!
OTOH, The Governing Body is clearly afraid about some internal challenge to their authority. Also, the Society has always had some sort of strongman, dictating things, even if it wasn't obvious (such as "The Boss" - Jaracz). Their economic model of donations for magazines is failing and digital releases won't change that. They are wrecking their "brand identity" with changes like leaving Brooklyn. And some years ago, just before 911, there were VERY EXPLICIT rumors that they were ready to dump a whole steaming pile of ugly doctrine and practice, at a mass meeting.
In summary: the only way any reform could ever work would be by risking a 'Samson holding the temple pillars" strategy, in which you have SO MUCH leverage, that they are in desperate trouble..............and know it. Good Luck with that. Not impossible but I won't hold my breath.
