I remember The Andy Griffith Show (featuring the affable Deputy Fife) from the earliest times of my life. It will be popular when my daughter is old and gray, no doubt. But now... I'm beginning to wonder about me...

I find myself watching I Love Lucy whenever it's on, and I once hated... I say HATED, the show. It's classic TV!

What's more, 'round here our PBS station replays segments of the Ed Sullivan Show on Saturday nights, and you think I miss it? Hell no!! Got my popcorn, my beverage, and everything. I'm sitting right there, laughing like stuff is *really* funny... like I'm really being entertained. Just like those Sunday nights long, long time ago... when I was a little kid... living in the projects.

    Great TV.

    Better than anything on now.

    What's wrong with me?

Just nostalgia, teej. My MP3 collection is heavily skewed toward music from my teen years.

And don't forget, if a TV show became a 'classic,' there is a reason for it: it was (and still is) good. Ain't nothing wrong with enjoying something good.

What is the Ed Sullivan show? Is that like Jerry Springer?

We watch the Ed Sullivan show too on our local public TV.
And I certainly didn't grow up watching it, didn't even know who Ed Sullivan was.... Hey, I grew up in France !
But it is so interesting to see Michael Jackson with the Jackson five, a black cute little kid, look at him now !!!
And Elvis Presley, and Barbara Streisand, and Tom Jones, and what's his name,,, the one who sings "Sweet Caroline", Neil Diamond...

    Yep...Yep yep yep.
I was a kid when all those shows were on, hated them. I to watch I Love Lucy in the mornings on PBS. This morning was the episode where they were all on a train and Lucy thought the man in the next car was a jewel theif. I use to get so mad at how stupid I thought that show was and now I laugh at it and enjoy it. Once in a while i'll catch an old Steve Allen show. Those are great.

Yah, Micheal Jackson was a cute kid. I use to think he had an obsession with Diana Ross's looks. Seems like he looks as much like her as possible. They were close way back when. Before Liz came into the pitcure. Gossip gossip gossip....

Just in case you weren't feeling too old today, this will certainly change
things. Each year the staff at Beloit College in Wisconsin puts together a list to try to give the faculty a sense of the mindset of this year's incoming freshmen.

    Here's this year's list:

The people who are starting college this fall across the nation were born in 1983.

They are too young to remember the space shuttle blowing up.

Their lifetime has always included AIDS.

Bottle cap s have always been screw off and plastic.

The CD was introduced the year they were born.

They have always had an answering machine.

    They have always had cable.

They cannot fathom not having a remote control.

Jay Leno has always been on the Tonight Show.

Popcorn has always been cooked in the microwave.

They never took a swim and thought about "Jaws".

They can't imagine what hard contact lenses are.

They don't know who Mork was or wh ere he was from.

They never heard: "Where's the Beef?", "I'd walk a mile for a Camel", or "deplane Boss, de plane".

They do not care who shot J. R. and have no idea who J. R. even is.

McDonald's never came in Styrofoam containers.

They don't have a clue how to use a typewriter.

Just think of how old we will all feel when the kids just being born now are coming up and didn't witness the Sept. 11 attacks. Then we will know we are "ancient".

It's OK to get older teejay.. in some ways....in other ways it sucks.
Many older shows that I used to not like as a kid I like very much now.
When I was in my early 20's "All in the Family" was the big show to watch and I didn't like it... now I love it.

I think as we get older and wiser many things look different than they did when we were younger.

Teejay.....do you remember "I married Joan"...with jim backus?
If you do....then you ARE old...LOL

    Xena,

Now I really *do* feel old!

    One thing, though...

Jay Leno didn't become the host of the Tonight Show until 1992.
