From the talk I heard this last weekend, by the DO, it is obvious that many are "associating" with their disfellowshipped loved ones. They are disobeying the Governing Body/Faithful Slave. It's making the GB nervous.
Through The Grapevine Report on Recent Circuit Assembly

In line with ScenicViewer's post, I have seen first-hand the type of "hyping up" that is done by JW's over some perceived "interest". For example, I'd be at a door with my mom, she'd be yakking at the homeowner who looked like they just wanted to have us gone, leave a magazine or brochure, and walk back to the car on a cloud of sparkly dust because she found someone who was interested...when the poor person was just trying to get us to go away. My mom would ask me to chime in when she was describing the interest level of the person, and I was always honest and said "Well, they didn't seem that interested...but they took the literature...". This was always seen as an affirmation of interest ("Well, they took the literature! That means they ARE interested!")...and there was much rejoicing in the car group...
When she tried to go back, mysteriously, the homeowner was never around...even stay-at-home moms and shut-ins lol.

GB: How dare you love your loved ones! You must HATE, in a Godly way, any that disagree with us!!!! We are your "mother" and you must love US!!!

It's pretty fruitless speculating about the content and intent of a third-hand report of what was allegedly said at a recent circuit assembly.
Having said that, JWs are sensationalist pattern-seekers: They see signs and portents in everything. And if a big-mouthed GB member was addressing the audience, he'd only have to sneeze to have JWs trying to determine its significance. Interestingly, others on this forum who did attend one of the recent circuit assemblies did not report what your mother claimed had been discussed at the assembly(i.e., that there has been an upswing of interest in returning to the organization by disfellowshipped ones - that sounds a bit suspicious because wouldn't disfellowshipped ones who want to return take the initiative to approach their local elders rather than express it to witnesses in public places? It sounds very contrived.

The Manhattan project was reported as being set up to distribute bibles. If this is a report of the success they are having so far then it's not what they intended and it may be possible that they are trying to find some success in it.

My mother called her and said that she and our dad had their circuit assembly this weekend and apparently a Governing Body member gave a talk... that seems very odd to me. Do Governing Body member usually speak at circuit assemblies? Maybe it was a Branch member?
Never let them get away with anything. You always want to know names etc.. Ask for a copy of the program. Does the name of the talk match up with what they are telling you. Always ask for a WT that supports what they said, then, after an appropriate amount of time, ask why they haven't sent it to you.
He discovered that most of the interest was from disfellowshipped and ex-JWs.
Yeah, right.
Probably them evil apostates asking him to explain what a generation is. Trot on down to Wal-Mart for a chat and find out if this dude will talk to a real ex-JW. Take a mate to grab the video.

Not to give up on DF'd ones, eh?
Could this be a misheard thing or ala chinese whispers?
The only pro-JW spinI could read into this would be: 'Don't worry about DF loved ones. Leave them be. Just carry on sleeping in the JW delusion. Then hope the DF ones fall asleep in the dubby daydream land with you eventually.'

Never heard of a GB member at a CA. As far as the manhattan project, I know people involved in it and never heard anything about DF ones approaching them. I think the idea was to make a bunch of tired out slaves feel special, as if those out wanted back in.
What gets hyped in this manhattan project thing is just normal, human, interaction -- something witnesses are not used to. If you put out tables in NYc with brochures for Bigfoot and ufos you would generate interest

To answer your other question.....no it is not unheard of for a GB member to give a talk at a local circus assembly. I recall David Splaine coming to our assembly years ago. You should have seen everyone practically panicking. It was as though God himself had decended upon us. I recall making a joke that he might have some "splainin" to do. I got a stone cold stare from everyone around me. In fact one sister said in a disgusted tone...."are you aware that he is on the GOVERNING BODY????"
Evidently these GB members are so holy that even making a light hearted joke in reference to one of them is strictly prohibited.
I recall listening to my father in law recount working behind the stage that day. How nervous everyone was.....making sure everything went well. Brother Splaine likes this......Brother Splaine likes that. Brother Splaine doesn't like this.....he doesn't like that. He was being treated like a spoiled little red carpet actress that needs all the green M&M's removed from her crystal serving dish. It is amazing that JWs will look at the veneration of the Pope and comment on how idolatrous it is......yet they fail to see that they themselves do the same when it comes to high ranking officials within the organization.

I feel sorry for the df'd ones who are suffering and have not been in the frame of mind to learn the truth about the truth - heaping the guilt on themselves because they are being shunned.
They are always susceptible.
I feel encouraged to think that there are ex-jws or df'd ones out there that seem "interested" and possibly using "new skills" to strike up "interesting" conversations with those who are still trapped.
