1. As children we were told many things about ourselves. Some good, some bad. Which of these do you believe, the good ones or the bad ones, and why?
1. I was told not to get pregnant - "good girls save themselves." I didn't get pregnant - nor did I save.
Our parents said many things to us - depending upon our personality, I think we remember what made an impact. ie: My father made us kiss him and mom every time we left the house - for 18 years. Our friends thought it was weird, we thought it was the way our family was - no big deal.
Was it bad? No. But put into context with how he behaved at other times......it made no difference. It just made it harder to see him as an overall person with different sides.
He also made us say thank you after every meal my mom prepared. Good. But he was a louse. My husband is good - but never compliments.
So it depends...............our viewpoint, our input, what we want to remember (highly selective sometimes), and why we want to put importance to the memory of that particular upbringing.
And sometimes it just takes sheer willpower to go on.....and reach. We've all got to find our own place of peace & comfort. I think that's one reason some of us fell for the WTBTS - they offered it to us.
Back to work now......I have self-esteem about it.....but I still don't like it
