  If I remember correctly bethelites are not allowed to have FB accounts, or maybe it is just at the brach in our country.

  Putting out a warning of making conversation with strangers on the net is a valid viable warning, but to insinuate

  having a FaceBook page and using it is going far over the top of personal intermingling with people's personal lives.

  One of the unfortunate aspects to high control organizations like this one.

  Power comes to these people (elders) like self appointed gods, looking after and controlling its subservient slaves.

  Its no wonder people eventually get fed up with religious organizations like this and leave it all together.

  I remember a few years ago an elder asked me if I could help him go online and find the myspace accounts for all the young witnesses in our circuit. I told him I didn't have an account and had no idea how to do that. Later, at a circuit assembly a brother talked about how "many" youths in the circuit had been posting unchristian activities on their myspace accounts and parents needed to monitor them.

  This is just ridiculous. Why don't they ask for a show of hands of how many in the congregation look at kiddie porn or have ever fondled a child?? That's a more important issue than friggin' FACEBOOK.

  How is that a dirty trick? I had that part also and asked the same question. In fact, I included several other social network sites. This is what I asked, "how many of you regularly use facebook, linkedin, twitter or other social network sites?". More than half the congregation raised their hands, including myself from the platform. Then I proceeded to tell them that due to the popularity of these sites, it was wise for the Faithful and Discreet Slave to publish some warnings and counsel in the Awake magazine. These online tools are becoming a daily necessity in some cases. I explained how online businesses are now using social network sites to promote their websites. Then I used the illustration in the Awake about driving a car and how many are irresponsible drivers, even endangering other drivers. But, I said, it doesn't make it wrong to drive a car if we are wise and careful drivers. I applied this to social networks and told the congregation we were not there to prohibit their use, but only to discuss logical concerns about privacy and associations.

  From what I hear in our area, similar explanations were given in other congregations. So, even though you were bothered by the questioned asked from the platform, you did not write what the speaker said the rest of the talk. Could it have been something similar to what I said? Look, I understand some of the concerns posted on this site, but you have to be careful not to desperately attempt to criticize so quickly.

  You said it right there The Sheppard, the Cult wants to know with whom and why your having those conversations.

  Are they having conversations with people who are NOT jws ? are they starting up conversational relationships with people who are NOT jws ?

  This is nothing but personally intermingling into people's social affairs by a highly controlling religious cult.

  Let it be realized though that people can get addicted to these on line social networks, particularly with teenagers who shouldn't spend so much time

  on these sites when there are more important valuable things to do or they could do.

  I know parents have these very particular concerns.

  Lets face it the WTS. wants to know who their members are associating with at all times and exactly what they're talking about .

  It has really nothing to do about privacy, except for them personally sticking their noses into other people's privacy.

  That's BS. They don't want to know who your having a conversation with. It's not like they're asking everyone to turn in their list of friends, for god's sake. You are so obsessed with crying "controlling cult" that you don't know what you're talking about. Privacy is a real issue and if you don't realize that, then you're a fool. Does the organization tell us not to associate with non jws? Actually, they don't prohibit it, but encourage us to only have necessary dealings. Is that really so wrong? That's exactly what Jehovah told the Israelites, so your problem is bigger than the organization. You're problem is with Jehovah himself.
