They might be able to get away with throwing out Daniel 4 and 607 BC...and teach 1914 as a Matthew 24 a Signs-Only Fulfillment. Notice in this article, they point out to what they view as signs first, and then they state chronology second.
They could just view that the Bible Students predicted 1914 as a result of Providence, and how they derived at date of irrelevant. I don't want to give them ideas, but that would be the smartest strategy. Other than coming clean.
Londo111: For more than 90% of the members, they can get away with ANYTHING related to doctrine. If you've read Hassan, you know why this is the case.
I wish it wasn't true. But it is. It's very easy to think doctrine-only sometimes and forget about the cult aspect.

I agree that for most JWs the dates don't really matter that much.
I have shown this to a few JWs including my mother, and the answer is that maybe some dates are wrong, but that their religion is still the best out of all of them

I think that that is their typical "mind control", IMO.
According to my observation, they almost know nothing about other religions.
In fact, what do they know about the Japanese religions?
In Japan, a certain ancient Buddhism priest (Nichiren) taught that the "Hell" is a figurative expression.
But JWs misunderstand the word "Hell", and interpret literally.
But even people who speak English do not always interpret literally the word "Hell."
For example, "I like you a hell of a lot", etc.
Moreover, they know nothing about the "Trinity."
Therefore, they always use "straw man."
Also in the Trinity doctrine, the "Son" is different from the "Father."

2034 is perfect, they don't have to change a thing, just let this barge slowly ground itself.
Sell off the rest of the property, claim it is going into the world wide work, remote lands requiring much more funds to sneak in the 'truth'...

Interesting point Yknot... I think that greed will come into it somewhere. All this property in Brooklyn being sold up and them getting involved with Hedge funds. What if they make some dodgy investments, in the financial climate atm it could all come crashing down and the whole lot finished overnight..then where will all the R&F be without their leaders, printing works etc...
Paragraph 10 of the original post leaves out important JW dogma. The "great tribulation" needs to happen with the destruction of false religion and a powerful advance by the King of the North. How can they just drop those teachings and hang it all on their crazy "over-lapping generation since 1914"?
