I think a modern day defection by a Governing Body member in which he gave a big media expose' on the truth behind the WTS could cause a large number to leave. I was just new when Ray Franz left and it was hushed up pretty good. The warning about Apostates went out and not to read Ray's book when it came out. Back then it would have taken some effort to read the book. Nowdays with the internet, I think more JW's would immediately check to see what was going on.

Well first...(sad to say) someone besides EX and soon-to-be EX JWs would have to give a crap!
The media would need to have a reason to report some things. Maybe the FBI could/should get involved. Maybe some type of OCCUPY movement should take place to bring MEDIA ATTENTION.
JWs views of homosexuals (and even TV shows that feature them) or pedophiles that are protected or what they say about those who are NOT JWs could spark the interest of many.
Maybe someone ballsy enough could enter a documentary to a film festival or create a reality show about them. There are many routes, but it would have to be something that would make Any/Every one say "WTF?! theeeese people are nuts! something must be done about them"

Members believe what they want to believe because they want it to be real. It is very difficult to get people out unless they open themselves up to the possibility that it is bullshit.
We know it, worldlies know it, hell, dogs know it but they are blinded by dreams of petting tigers by waterfalls having picknicks. And if they do get those nasty thoughts that things aren't adding up, just rely on skydaddy with a name and he'll make everything all right. ;(

Just remember this cult has hate, persecution and apostasy built into their control structure. They put more effort and propaganda into warning members against “evil things” than they do in actually trying to be real Christians. Witlesses have been conditioned to listen only to what comes from the wash-towel bait and switch $ociety, no matter how ludicrous (because, as we all know, it’s nude light). Even if you have hard evidence to back up your reasoning they won’t listen; according to them anything outside of wash-towels cocoon (trap) is complete crap, and you’re a load of crap for trying.

FHN, I fear that if Toto pulled back the WT curtain, when the man said, "Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain," the vast majority of JWs would put the curtain back in place and obey.
there are a few that leave, but are replaced by naive ones as easily.
people would only follow fellow friends and relatives............ remember in the JW religion shunning keeps many in line.
