  I looked at earthquakes some time ago, and found the most intense activity was around the end of the 1700's (if my memory serves me) I also found a number of leading clergymen of the time, linking this earthquake activity in with the loose morals (as they saw it) oft the time, they felt certain they were in the time of the end !

  Nothing changes in the world of those who imagine they are so special that words put into the mouth of "Jesus" by writers of Gospels with an agenda, apply in their day.

  As to the thread title, we see this attitude with JW's and other Bible literalists all the time, they have no other choice but to ignore the plain proven facts, if they don't they are faced with, at the minimum, accepting the Bible as 99% allegorical, and maybe going as far as saying SHOCK HORROR ! perhaps it is not the word of god at all.

  Im going to present some figures taken by tallying the facts as recorded for our benefit in the OT. Im going to tell the story of the biggest mass murderer in history when he was active.

  Jehovah god is directly responsible for ordering or actively particpating in the deaths of 25 Million by the time of the exile to Babylon for arguments sake we will say this happened close to 500BC when the world population was about 100 Million. By this time, Jehovah in all his goodness had killed about 25 Million. No other monster in history has ever come close to the equivalent of killing a quarter of the world. Even as an absolute figure Jehovah is still in the top ten even today, quiet an achievement given he had less to work with. Imagine how much bigger the figure would be if God was active outside the tiny nation of Israel, the figures would be mind blowing.
