I hope Bauckham and others do say something about this in print. Maybe it's not a tetragrammaton, but doesn't the possibility excite you? Wouldn't it be amazing if JWs turned out to be right about the early Christians using the divine name?

I would personally accept it as nothing short of a miracle!

the truth is many if not all synagogues from the ancient past had zodiacs. josephus himself said the temple in jersualem had zodiac motifs. it also pointed east, etc

So here is a comparison of the image on the side of the ossuary (photographed in 1981) and the image on the front:

Tabor and Jacobvici interpret both as fish tails. But notice that both have this feature at the tip like a handle.

And this is a crop of the photoshopped image that Tabor says that is not photoshopped:

A very lazy use of clone stamping, if you ask me. And there is a nonexistent horizontal chisel mark just below where there should be a line for the "handle", which does not show up in this "blow up" of the image on the front.

then he cites what I was hoping to see: examples of iotas similar form

So it's game back on for it being a Greek transliteration of the tetragrammaton?

I wonder if there'll be a Watchtower article in the making here.

Yeah, now I'm waiting for Rollston's response (or from any other epigraphers) with baited breath. The OCTA reading has a lot of intrinsic plausibility, but Bauckham makes a really good case for IAIO on other grounds, and now on epigraphic grounds as well....so yeah the response will be interesting.

Rollston gives a brief response, indicating a more detailed analysis is on the way:

Here is the "blowup" of the "Jonah" image that was not "photoshopped in any way":
