No they will suggest that you dress appropriately to walk longer distances this will have the added benefit of increasing time in the territory. They will cite the example of Andre a ficticious brother in Africa who walked through crocodile infested rivers to get to the territory because he didn't have a car.

I suspect that witnesses already have made a concious decision not to work outer lying parts of the territory as frequently. I haven't seen witnesses working our road for over 18 months.

Yet, they merged two meeting days into one, wasn't it because of gas prices???

Aren't half at least Aux. pio. this month??

I lived in a semi rural area east of Seattle for seven years in the late '90's-early 'aughts. We were called on once. We've been in our current condo for five years, I've never been called on. I agree completely with the comments above regarding lack of concern from the top. I suspect more publishers will just lie about their time.

Maybe the GB will tell the publishers to do internet witnessing to save gas money!

Nugget you beat me to it.

I was thinking surely they'll bring up the experience of Brother Give-a-Crap in South America,Africa,Asia,Mexcio,or Central America who swam across pirhhana/croc/snake infested rivers.

Then proceeded WALK 10-15 miles to the hall. Even back then I wondered how come there was never a story like that here in the USA ?

They'll probably encourage some to assist those who are having difficulties. Or just flat out start car pooling.

I agree Gayle, didn't they use the high gas excuse to merge meetings? What are they gonna do this round?

I hear what everyone is saying, but they made other adjustments due to fuel costs...the way mags & lit are distributed from Branch-->Assembly Halls-->Congregation, combined meetings and shuffling district lines.

They have to know that more money spent on gas for field service means less money for donations. Maybe field service doesn't "cost" the WTS much at this point (most of the cost is on the R&F), but surely it has to be a liability in some form or fashion.

Perhaps this is a situation where the members will vote with their wallet and not go out as often. I know WTS pushes phone witnessing and other alternatives, but no one wanted to do any of those things when I was still in.

This is kind of funny. In Norway the gas price has risen to some 10,80 dollars a gallon...

Why do you complain about gas prices?

The WTS cares less about what the publishers spend on gas. After all the publishers need to practice the self-sacrificing spirit until it hurts.

LOL GAS PRICES! I remember years ago when they canned the “book study” they claimed it was *in part* due to gas prices and the extra burden this put on everyone. What is ironic however is that they announced that they were putting a stop to book study in the summer time when gas prices were at their highest… and they didn’t have the final one until January of the following year. Truth be told they canceled book study because no one showed up! A 1 hour religious meeting seems like no big deal and easy to fit into your weekly schedule… however it turned into no big deal to OMIT from a schedule/budget. Growing up my family literally had 4/7 days mostly if not completely committed to meeting/service/congregation BS. That one hour meeting midway through the week was a real pain in the butt.

On top of that it’s not like those meetings actually contributed anything to our lives. They would often study the same book or same message over and over and over again.
