Only after his death.
Jesus stood up for the powerless against the Jewish system that had become corrupt. I'm not religious at all, but Jesus is alright with me.

Same for me Dinah, the Historical Jesus, as far as we can determine, was an O.K guy.
The Cult that grew up using his name, and the Mythos, from late in the 1st Century is a different thing from the teachings of the Nazarene. The "Christology" of Paul is another strand of the following that arose, the two combining loosely but splitting in to many sects straight away.
The Cult of Jesus was not something I see him planning deliberately, he was hijacked after his death for use by people with varying agendas.

This is an unnerving no-brainer. He said, "I am the truth, the way and the life". His followers form divergent groups were and are prepared to die for him.
Jim Jones could not have expressed it better or had a better result. Conclusion: Jesus is the leader and/or role model of (several) Cults.
Disobey Jesus? You die. Obey him? You may still die - but with his blessing.
I heard Jim Jones had a smile on his face when his followers died. He died a happy man.

He probably really said I'm telling the truth and if you treat people better you'll have a better life.
Yeah, Jesus was completely hi-jacked.

Jesus, at least the guy in the Gospels was not the Jewish Messiah, you don't get to be the Messiah by throwing your own people under the bus. The Western mindset has to be completely reeducated on Judaism and especially Judaism under the boot of Rome.

Paul the Apostle was the cult leader. Wouldn't be surprised if he's the one that made up Jesus.

Agreed. Paul would love being a pompous JW elder.

Amen to that. Church history is a lot like JW history. But at least many more understood grace. Not Rutherford, Knorr or the other creeps. The popes and sectarians made the mess we have today.

I suspect Paul was proving what Jesus said recorded at John 2:25
He did not need man's testimony about man, for he knew what was in a man.
It is my opinion that Paul was not writing about what should be but about what is.
