Yes, still in print. At the risk of self advertising (I got a mod's warning for mentioning it once before) it's rather pricey because it's published as an academic book but if anyone wants a copy PM me for a reasonable deal. Or, of course, borrow from the library!

I suspect they'd print it all in disappearing ink, that lasts about five years.

They don't have to change their past because they're constantly re-tooling their present and future.

The WTS also avoids rewriting mistakes by not just mentioning them again for years. I believe the 7,000 year creation day was last mentioned in 1989, 23 years ago. Never changed it but they slip in the phrase "thousands of years" instead.

If they could just have created ink that will vanish after a few years, everything would be alright.

If they told everybody upfront they were just guessing...they wouldn't have any power.
But, it is GUESSING.
The extremely damaging aspect of the guessing is the presentation.
They are gambling with people's entire lives from cradle to grave, inserting doctrinal wedges, interrupting key moments of development and self-preservation. The JW theology is a virus.
The doctrine that allows them to get away with it is pure comic book sci-fi. "Hotline from Heaven!"
This is an ELITE.
The role Christ plays is Mediator. They've wedged themselves into the slot and shoved Jesus aside.

Yes when I was in the Witnesses there used to be this mantra about some people think that the Bible is like a violin on which any old tune can be played but the JWs' , it was said, had the one and only true understanding of God's purpose according to their interpretation of the Bible which wasn't really supposed to change tune. However it is obvious now that changing their tune is what they are good at.
I suspect that before long there will be some new tunes coming along in order to keep everyone doing the dance.

Terry the word virus is a good definition of Watchtower theology it infects personality to a dangerous degree.
Blondie how right you are they just quietly put statements out of sight as if they were never made

The way they deal with older (less true) articles is control. The whole WT org is based on control (opposite to Jesus' example, love).
Control members by telling them not to talk to ex-members
Control members' time by constantly getting them to study new articles
Control members' time by constant meetings, field service ...
Control old articles by not publishing them (on the CD-ROM ... etc)
Label anyone who views old artices as an Apostate
Members have no time or capactiy for critical thinking, and therefore go along with whatever they're told.
