The atheists book of bible stories is amazing! I only flicked thru some of it, but wow! I'm doing a lot of reading and thinking, I guess like a lot of you posters on JWN have done before me. It feels a lot like a fog is lifting and I'm starting to see sunlight for the first time. It's definitely a journey.

The further away I get from the jw mindset the more I appreciate life and see a point to it which is an amazing feeling, tho now I'm not sure on even the existence of god or even if he exists would I want to worship a god who is quite so homicidal?

    lots to think about.

Is this how many of you feel/felt?

Yes, it was G*d's cruelty and obvious hatred of women and children that first made me doubt it existed. (EDIT: the story of Job, in particular, got me thinking - G*d and Satan working together, torturing Job to see who would win,,, nice G*d! that is REAL love for his children)

Now, I just see it as a book of myth and revisionist history, with a few batshit crazy 'metaphorical' prophecies thrown in for good measure.

Try a comparison of the main religions .... christianity, hinduism, buddhism, taoism, islam, shintoism ,,, what am I leaving out? hmm .... and you will find they all have common themes. After all, they were all written by men, to control the population, and there are basic methods of control -- so why should they be so different?

LOL,Welcome Inisc. You seem to have stumbled across the awful truth- the Bible is just a book of stories. There's a couple of different ways you can find out what you want- research on the Net, or reading books by people who have spent their whole lives researching- but it's all the same; maybe just a bit more accuracy & detail in a book. It's probably more interesting than you might think....

Just finihed reading the book "Misquoting Jesus." Interesting book on those who did the translating of the scriptures. I have had problems with believeing the Bible also. I ask myself why we have never seen any miracles, why God would

destroy some man trying to keep the Ark of the Covenant from falling and many other thing that seem strange. The mistreatment of women and so many other thing don't sound right. My brothers, both xjws, stopped believing the Bible long

ago. I have studied a lot of science and the more I learn, the more I believe in a Creator. There is so much intelligence in creation. Just studying plant biology was impressive. I don't believe the JW organization. They are just a publishing

corporation that has make millions off of us stupid publishers (i.e. book and mag sellers). They will go to any lengths to protect their corporation.

    This made me really chuckle.

What a great post and thanks to Billy the Ex and Witness Fury for the links. Briefly read a couple of paragraphs and it certainly is great comedy.

    Ahh.....

Well, when I was 7 years old and some brother read Exodus 19: 16-19 from the podium, I recognized that text as a solid description of an erupting volcano....

[I was rockhounding at the age of 5 and discovered volcanoes around the age of 7...]

And when I figured out that neither "Moses" NOR his "god" knew what the hell they were dealing with, I realized that "god" couldn't be 'all-knowing' if "he/it" didn't even recognize an erupting volcano as just another natural occurance among thousands of such eruptions since the earth's crust cooled down....

If my parents hadn't been beating, bullying and intimidating me into the cult, I would have probably become atheist right then and there...
