Thanks Palm & tec....had a great time with my friend.... short but sweet.
Wizard...tried clicking on your link http://www.abc.net.au/internetradio/triplej to see what it was about. But it says web page not valid or unavailable...
But my personal original source of learning about Christ is word of mouth (based on other word of mouth or the gospels, true). The same way people learned in the first century....tec
LOL tec...for most of us the first way we heard about Christ was word of mouth...usually our parents talking to us or school etc when we were too young to read the bible...and yes...IT IS STILL BASED on the BIBLE (the printed book).
That doesn't make us like the people in the first century at all...because, if Jesus is real, they heard it from him, people who were eye witnessess or people who knew the eyewitness. And the story hadn't spent 2,000 years being changed to what we have now which is the basis of the word of mouth that you were given. Unless of course, you had some direct line back to the apostles or the other 'witnessess' and these stories were handed down to you....or whoever told them to you.
And AGAIN you claim this....
But even then, the gospels and witness accounts are a good place to learn about Christ - about his life and teachings
There is more evidence to say that these writers were not Mathew, Mark, LUke & John than there is...in fact...the writers are more than likely anonymous. And we are taking their word for it...people who don't even identify themselves....hmmmmmm....who does that remind you of???? New World Translators ring a bell????
LV101....Sophia is a very interesting entity/being/idea. Otherwise known as Wisdom, she is referred to even in the Bible as it is now.
Here is a link for you if you're interested...it gives a rough overview of differnet religious ideas about who Sophia is.

this is also an interesting link about the Pistos Sophia...gnostic writings discovered in 1773...
Put another way, believing in someone is not just acknowledging their existance... it is believing in their Name -all the things they stand for and teach - and doing your best to follow them. Plenty believe and go against God/Christ/love, unable to see their own hypocrisy, hurting others, doing as they please. But these are the ones who Christ says that He never knew.
How can you be so sure that those who no longer believe didn't do this ? Nearly every account I have read on this site shows the love and belief that they had...and the pain of losing that belief genuinely believed, and most seem to have agreed with what he stood for and most seemed to do their best to follow him.....why was that not enough?
That comment tec is judgemental....because in effect you are saying that the believers in some way failed...(they may even have been unable to see their own hypocrisy...may have been hurting others and doing as they please)...Any other reasons you may like to give of why we failed?
In a very 'religious way, you have just condemned all athiests on this site. And before you say you didn't aim that at anyone...what was the point in saying that?
What did any of that have to do with this post you were supposedly replying too?
Very convenient that with the growth of science and technology that could verify a supposed sign god stopped doing them

jesus was not the only miracle worker in history or the bible. there are stories that emperor vespasian cured a blind man using his spit. the simon magus mentioned in the nt is said to have flown when challenged by the apostle peter.
search wiki for --saints and levitation-- there are lots of interesting thoughts to think about. if you read many of the other non canonical gospels there are many wonderful magical stories.
apparently vespasian was famous in egypt for his healing powers.
i guess the q becomes why believe jesus stories and not vespasian?
vespasian was not a mere mortal, he was a god. he was a god in the sense, he gave life and handed out death to many on a scale ordinary men couldnt. after all isnt a god just another word fir king ?
They were just 'party tricks' mP....Jesus doesn't do party tricks
still:
but more people believed in vespasians abilities during the first century than jesus. apparently the empire also believed that nero returned from the dead to become emperor again. many scholars believe that the anti christ diatrives in revelation are telling this very story, as the number of the beast - 666 in geametria actually spells nero!
again read up on wiki for ---666--- etc for interesting starters. who would have thought nero himself was ressurrected, how is this possible.
then again if you ask the muslims they will tell you jesus didnt even get crucified, or perhaps one should simply read mark 16! and ignore the admitted additions...
how could be muslims be on the wrong god if they faithfully follow many of the mosaic laws, no pork, the way they treat women, abraham, lot, noah, isaiah, its hard to tell the difference between judaism in the ot and modern islam!
still-
the logos concept in john is part of the same strain of philosophy that believed in sophia etc.
