When it comes to the WTS, whole-souled commitment always seems to come down to things they measure -- meeting attendance and field service.

Don't want to get off thread, but are you still an active JW that still attends meetings and give reports? Jest asking. I like the reports.

Here is a poor black and white scan of the colour pic that related to para 5 . "While engaging in day to day activities might we be embarrassed to identify ourselves as Jehovah's Witnesses, either because of the way we behave or the way we dress?" - my scanner does not do well the WT colour printing ......but I hope you get the idea

If by inactive you mean I don't turn time in, no I don't which is the only real WTS definition of "inactive." I knew a jw that never attended meetings but turned in a time slip every month; and the elders took it and recorded it. Now he was considered active. But I read the articles and apply my 47 years as a jw, and the 3 generations of jws in my family. jws still tell me what is going on and converse, so I see how the land still lies. Comments by other jws still attending but not believing on JWN and other dbs, keeps me informed.

Blondie, I had not read a WT since sometime in the early 80s (df'd for apostasy around that time). Majority of my family (large and also 3 generations) still very active. I burst out laughing when my cousin told me about the two editions of the WT. I thought that was a smart move on the wts part. Was surprised to find we (apostates) could actually gain access to the study editions. Thanks for keeping us informed. I am new to these sites; been too busy getting education at University to have any interest in WBTS until a few months ago.

Hrumph!!
Blondie, I suspect that the reason for that 1976 article on how simply "living 'Christian' " was sufficient, was a calculated response to their 1975 fiasco.
For over 11 years, they'd been building the Rank&File up to the "Armageddon" climax, and then it all deflated. So, they were issuing platitudes - "just be good little Christians; that's all 'gawd' wants of you..."

"...Moreover, the apostle Paul had made it clear that a dedicated Christian's life-every aspect of it-may appropriately be considered "a sacrifice." -Rom. 12:1. ..."
Aahhh...
Correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't the Christians suffering persecution by this time?
What would be more effective than to claim that such persecution was part of being offered up as a "sacrifice"....
