Does anyone else think there is less and less JW and religious content on this site each year?

"It is a shame that many of the great posters of the past have moved on, but I say good luck to them, and bless them for their contribution, we can but try to emulate them, but we are standing on the shoulders of giants.
At least we still have a number of Big Brains still with us, foremost being our dear resident scholar, Leolaia...." Phizzy

    You said it, Phizzy!!

Anymore, we don't see nearly as much of Leolaia, as I'd like to....

I just checked the first page of topics -- 9 topics dealing with JW and exJW support issues, 2 other, and this one. That's about the average, I think. I agree with GLADIATOR. And we have MANY big brains on the forum; some are university-educated, and bible scholars, that's true. But let's not lessen the importance of every person that gives support, or tells their story. We all make a valuable contribution. It's election year in the US, and to be honest, the political wrangling is NOT as viscious as it used to be. That, too, is an intrinsic part of learning to live 'in the world'.

"I've never seen a proper debate here. I have seen people make posts that run contrary to the mainline thinking of this forum followed by an immediate and brutal attack from a dozen directions, causing the poster to limp away on whats left of himself, but I have never seen a proper debate here. Not even an atmosphere conducive to a proper debate. ..." Irondork, above...

Well, then, Irondork, I have a suggestion for you...

Start a "Debate" thread, with the official rules of debate spelled out in the opening post. Moderate the thread, and be quick to point out whenever someone strays away from the debate rules...

I'd like to mention, in addition to my suggestion, that many, many ex-Jehovah's Witnesses were most specifically trained in confrontational door-to-door proselytising, NOT debate...

With the official Watchtower discouragement against joining in school activities, most - if not nearly all - of us, were not able to join any 'debate' teams at school, as that would have been frowned upon as a "gateway" to a political career in "Satan's" world.

So yeah - we - or speaking personally, I - don't know HOW to properly debate.

If you do - then by all means, please educate us.

Like others have said our evolution is evident. For a newly xjw the issues are family, some doctrine, and readjustment to a whole new big world. For those of us who have been out for many years that big new world is what we like and are a part of and enjoy discussing. But we are here with our experience and knowledge for any who need it.

Am I in the same forum? I see proper debates here all the time...or am I dreaming?

Char, I agree. If we leave out the political topics, we can see some really good debates about religion, and other subjects. It's easy to let the negative outshine the positive.

Some posters like to mock anyone they don't agree with, especially when it comes to science, or conspiracy theories, or 'new age' topics, but I mostly ignore the 'sarcastic spoilers' who have nothing to contribute but jibes; you know, 'hit and run' posters who just like to sneer but really contribute nothing to the debate, and concentrate on those who are sincerely searching for answers by debating the pros and cons.
