so what I'm gathering, is they laid some emphasis on those who are out but not df'd, to come back. Other than that, I'm guessing a yawn fest?

The speaker at my hall was using statistics mostly from recent events within the past 10 years to prove that the signs are being fulfilled and that the end is soon ... it is later than you think.
I'm thinking ... weren't these signs supposed to be "a beginning of pangs of distress" to prove the last days began in 1914? ... why bring up more recent events? You would think with the statistics he used the last days began within the past 15 years!

I think they WTBTS is feeling pangs of distress because their money is drying up because of mass exodus of members. Who wants to live with a bunch back biting 2 faced shmucks anyway? Now I'm seeing stuff about them in the hedgefund racket . Are they telling everyone the end is nye again while playing the stock market and investing in futures ? The whole system is rigged by crooks in a "morally" bank rupt syndicate.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. Many people still sell their large homes in exchange for smaller or rented accommodation in an attempt to "simplify" their lives. They also forego higher education opportunities, or give up full time work in favour of pioneering. It may not be the "spirit of '75" but it's the exact same principle.

Quite the opposite. Generally speaking, elders here are building new homes (if they kept their good jobs), worrying about building their pension plans, taking multiple vacations each year -- NOT working in Seldom Worked Territory, having babies, AND . . . . . . the good ones are resigning.

I seem to remember last time I studied an elder going on about a vacation in disney world but then they suddenly don't have money to pay the electric bill at the end of the month . I'm believing there's some kind of racketeering or fraud taking place , what will happen next, go ahead and pass the collection place around , put themselves on some sort of payroll? They seem to be all over the place on their finance , one minute it's we need money then people get the second job to pay the bills then they get picked on for attendance . I don't think first century christians had buildings and know there were no electric bill fraud taking place.

The thing that makes me laugh is the prophecy in the first place, obviously made up by the writer of the Gospel of Matthew.
"There will be wars"..... great prediction, has been since the first man made a weapon
"there will be food shortages" again, been a problem since the dawn of time
"there will be earhquakes in one place after another " on that one, he might as well have had Jesus say "there will be dog turds in one place after another"
or put another way, "sh*t happens" is NOT a prophecy.
Now if "Jesus" had said the opposite of these things I would be worried, since 1914 we have had a lot of wars, but we are actually in a period of peace that the world has never known before, 60 years of peace in Europe ? they used to struggle to keep the peace for a decade in the old days.
Feeding the world is still a problem, but we are now feeding many many times the 1914 population, and we have lifted billions out of starvation and poverty.
Earthquakes kill a lot of people 'coz they live in the zones, "Jesus" did not talk about numbers of dead anyway, just lots of quakes, if he had predicted that the big spike in earthquakes in the late 1600's would make ours seem like nothing then, yes I would think we were living in the time he prophecied about.
The writer of Matthew made a lame attempt at making "Jesus" look like a prophet, it cuts no ice, on that subject he didn't mention Global Warming either !

Disillusioned Lost-Lamb
I was "sick" and managed to get out of going, but I find it amusing that, when my family came back from the meat-ing, they told me about the exciting announcement and nothing more.
The talk couldn't have been very "special" if a 30 second declaration can over shadow it.
If there were actually ANYTHING new, or good, it would have been all my Mom wanted to talk about, but nope, not even an honorable mention.
