I am curious to see how different people answer this question. I dont think there is a right or wrong answer per se, just an answer that is more right to each person. Is it worse to let a guilty person go free, or to lock up an innocent person?

I am curious about other answers, so I wont give my answer until latter.

    Aaaahhh....

You might want to take another look at your question...

You wrote, "Is it worse to let an innocent person go free, or to lock up an innocent person?..."

Did you mean, "Is it worse to let a guilty person go free, or to lock up an innocent person?..." ????

Did you mean ....to let a guilty person go free or lock up an innocent person?

If thats the question......I think its worse to lock up an innocent person...they can't get their life back...and they only have one to live...however, if you believe in an after life.....this one may be expendable.

    Or.....is it a trick question?

    Yup!!

    I've often wondered about that...

To me, the worst thing is to convict an innocent person, because they don't look right, or a ditzy detective gets a "feel" for a certain suspect, rather than relying on solid evidence.

Because, if an innocent person is convicted, that means that the GUILTY party is out there, laughing at the law enforcement process and getting away with murder...

I'm not sure of the answer, but I firmly believe that a person is innocent until proven guilty. I hate the fact that innocent people do get locked up and punished in our society. On the other hand, I would hate for a guilty person to go free, because if they are guilty of a crime, they may do it again, and someone could suffer along the way who would not have if the person would have been locked up to begin with.

I like your viewpoint that there is no right or wrong answer, but rather just a personal feeling.

Personally, I think it would be worse to lock up an innocent person. I just cannot get past punishing an innocent person for something that they did not do. It's one of my biggest pet peeves. That is why I am an advocate of waiting until all evidence comes in before judging someone and presuming them guilty, no matter who it is because things are not always as they at first appear.

Locking up the innocent is worse. The guilty going free isn't as bad because if he is truly a bad person he will eventually reoffend and be caught and if he was to never reoffend then he just made a one time bad decision and didn't neccesarily need to be punished.

Better to have one victim than two.

Even if a guilty person is set free, remember this: You can beat the rap, but you can't beat the ride.

If they are truly guilty they will do it again and the second time around they won't be so lucky.
