Anyone got any idea what's going on with the WTBTS legal department these days?

Witnesses are now told to leave the territory if told by a law enforcement office to do so.

How does this square with Harold King?

And can someone remind me of the name of the woman (in China?) who was repeatedly jailed for refusing to stop preaching?

    Screengrab here.

What should you do if directed to stop preaching?

In some instances, the police have approached publishers who were sharing in some form of the ministry, informed them that they were violating the law, and directed them to stop. You should promptly and politely leave the territory if directed to do so. (Matt. 5:41; Phil. 4:5) Do not try to resolve matters on your own by getting involved in a discussion about our legal rights. If it is possible, tactfully obtain the badge number of the police officer and the number of his precinct. Thereafter, promptly inform the elders, who will then contact the branch office about the incident. Similarly, if you are asked to leave an apartment building or complex by the superintendent or any other apartment representative, you should comply immediately and inform the elders. A mild and humble manner of dealing with those in authority can do much to prevent unnecessary difficulties.-Prov. 15:1; Rom. 12:18.

If You Are Asked to Leave

8 But what if we are asked to leave a building by the superintendent or security personnel? It is usually best to comply immediately. Whenever possible, we want to avoid confrontation, with resulting threats of legal action and appeals to police.

I think they are instructing the JWS to not be confrontational in situations where there may be some legal problem for the JWS to go door

to door. They are then instructed to talk to their congregational elders, who should proceed on to reach the WTS. legal department.

One interesting thing that has changed over the years is that the WTS. tries to legally distance themselves from people who do go door to door.

They want to make the assumption that JWs are doing personal preaching work, separate from being directed or in association with the WTS.

Which is quite the deceiving lie since all JWS are being taught how to preach, through the WTS. own literature in hand.

When you think about it, the WTS. is a Kingdom of lies inside and out.

Hi passwordprotected. I always took the advice in the Watchtower publications to be more about 'being sly as a serpent and innocent as a dove' - not so much rolling over and complying but more about avoiding personal confrontation, yet following up on it later (e.g., ascertaining that a police officer acted without authority so reporting it to the appropriate authority).

Nothing has changed. We did that decades ago too. We simply continued our preaching in a different building or territory.

We were told back in the early 1970s to not push the Law about being within our rights in locked apartment buildings and condos..

I had half a mind to post on the long thread where "...egg-something" was going on and on about the dedication of JW's to saving precious lives of nonbelievers, but thought the better of it. I have my suspicions of his status...and it is not an active JW. He doesn't speak like anybody I know who is actively involved in "the organization,"(TM) and the required activites.

Times are very different from the old days. People not too many years ago took the decree seriously about contacting everybody in the territory, and stook up to secular authorities right up to the line in the sand. Today, it is really about making an appearance, getting time in, and doing it for the brotherhood. There are no discussions about interest in the field.

I moved to a townhome 5 years ago behind security gates. I have not received one contact, message on the voice mail (tied to the voice box), one lick of literature. I have seen numerous sets of JW's strolling along the street at snail pace, chatting, walking past our units, and the apartments next door, turning down a street to work some homes. I am amazed. In my old territory that had tons of security apartments and highrises, we worked those buildings from the lobby and mailings.

Oh well, if I were them, still in, making my time...I guess I'd do the same...if I was still in that is...
