Another possible reason for smaller mags. . .

YAN BIBLIAN - it really doesn't have anything to do with a lighter translating load - I'm thinking more along the lines of consolidating/downsizing translation teams of any given language, the load remaining the same. Just as the governing body is now down to a small, core group of people lessening the chances of any dissension, having smaller translation teams will lessen chances for any "lose cannons" in the translating process. Such are the benefits of a 16 page mag.

And think about it: their future growth is in 2nd and 3rd world countries with little education and limited Internet access. Solid translation teams will be extremely important in influencing people in these territories in the years to come. They can't afford a translation team going maverick.

Also like THEREVEALERS/WTWIZARD's point about less words = less tripping over their own wacky doctrine.

The translations hadn't even occured to me. I can't imagine trying to translate the generation dribble into another language. I wonder how they are buying this in other countries

B******t that the GB want's you to believe. Other less spoken languages already have smaller magazines and this is the case as far as I remember.

Yan Bibiyan you are right. A Spanish translator, that masters no other language besides English and Spanish will use this spare time to do what? Translate into Klingon?

A smaller team poses a greater risk to 'become apostate' and even if not the quality will downgrade. And IMO it is not the 'place' to do cuts. Many translators are even non Bethelites. Just publishers who simply email their translation from home.

Translation Tools developed by MEPS Programming and Translation Services is rather effective at helping translators do their work and just pour the text into the page layout. If Watchtower was going to be publishing in more languages, they would have done it already. In the letter they said that they "may be able" to translate into more languages. If that were actually the plan, they could easily produce 16 page abbreviated editions in new languages based on the 32 page English edition.

Of course, with the reduced pages, they'll reduce translators around the world. They'll also be able to cut artists, graphics, writing, paper, printing, shipping, etc.

Their life-saving "new light" is going to be smaller and less frequent than ever!

I'll try again. Don't believe anything about being able to translate more. I think 95% more or less of the Wat. is just all rehashed already translated same old stuff.
