JWs didn't invent the idea that masturbation would/could make you gay. Other fundamentalist groups believe this too. A reference to this was made in the HBO show about the polygamist Mormon faith, "Big Love" starring Bill Paxton.
The father of a closeted gay man on the show berates him and says, "You finally masturbated yourself into a Sodomite!"
Only if the guy was already latently homosexual and the stroke damaged some part of his brain that was controlling his covering behavior to hide it.
Or maybe the stroke gave him the freedom to just be who he has always been. Just blame it on the stroke--and he can have some peace.
There us a condition known as Foreign Accent Syndrom where one possible effect of brain damage or stroke can be developing a foreign accent.

It is quite worrying though, I may have a stroke and wake up sensible !

@Simon - That's funny, but it's also true. We had a sister in an old KH that started speaking in a welsh accent out of the blue and she was from Michigan.
