Ok, I've known a couple of these in my time. One is a douche that I wouldn't trust as far as my 4 year old can throw him. The other seems to be a decent therapist and he's really intelligent but I don't see HOW he can't see it's a freaking cult?? He helped us through a rough patch, unfortunately still mind controlled but we got through it. I have a message for the "good JW Therapist":

Paul, you helped us out in a tough spot, and I'll be forever grateful, but you're trained in mental illnesses, can't you see it's a cult?

    ---------------------------------------

I just can't see how someone that has to tiptoe around stupid borg rules about ratting people out for cult wrongdoings can be a good therapist?

How a mental health professional can be "in the truth" is pretty mind-blowing to me. Although my interests are not in clinical psychology, just studying basic Psych 101 is a big eye opener to the type of mental fraud and manipulation cults like WTS are up to.

Ultimately, just because you graduated college doesn't mean you are a critical thinker.

    Hey beltar447!

    Precisely.

    Go figure!

You'd think they've never heard of "cognitive dissonance" yet in reality they should be experts.

Religionists regularly cross ethical boundaries Psychologists are expressly trained not to, and one imagines legally forbidden to.

DeNile ain't just a river in Egypt.

I saw a therapist that specialized in Ritual Abuse for almost 10 years, and we discussed that subject. She said that many therapists don't believe JW is a cult,,, just like many therapists support the myth of False Memory Syndrome, and say that RA survivors are 'imagining' their horrific abuse. It takes all kinds.

baltar447 -- really --- is Paul the JW therapist onboard on this site to read your message/question? WOW/impressive if he is and ya'd think his days in the cult would be limited. Too bad he doesn't allow us ex-JW's to ask him questions. Hum, might not be a bad idea for a site psychologist via email --- I'm sure some wouldn't mind paying.

I know of a non-practicing psychologist who is a JW and they agree w/much of the borg's teachings --- so I was told but I know he/family are still in good standing.

Actually, I have to give credit to a witness therapist my family went to over 25 years ago. . .

My sister was having serious problems, and my mother would only go to a witness counselor, so she found one somehow.

In fact this counselor, who I'll refer to as J.D., had been referenced in at least an Awake magazine or two. . .

After meeting with my parents and sister repeatedly, J.D. called for a kind of intervention type meeting with our whole family. . .

where she told my mother that she was manipulative, controlling, and that there was really no legitimate reason to forbid higher education!

My mother was PISSED. . .

    J.D. is probably an apostate now. . . .

I haven't spoken to Paul since he helped my wife and I a few years ago. I only hope he's awaken to the bs around him. If he's still in but of the "conscious class" perhaps he can help more from the inside. Nevertheless, I wish him well. I know that he's smart enough to avoid appointment in the congregation. It would pose too many problems for him.

I can't even believe someone can take an Englkish class without discovering what Bull the Watchtower is. Yet people get all the way thrpough college staying a JW. That absolutely blows my mind. As one guy here puts it, mind=blown.

There are therapists who are Jehovah's Witnesses. Not many thank goodness but there aree a few. There are also people who have posted on this site that have seen some of these therapists and were badly hurt by them.

I would warn anyone away from seeing a JW therapist. They are counseled to break confidentiality if you are an active JW and you are saying things negative about the JWs or confess some "wrong-doing" accoerding to their rules.

I seem to have lost the link but Scully wrote an excellent piece about the confidentiality issues regarding the WTS/JWs and professionals

There is a therapist in the Los Angeles area by the name of Larry Onoda, Woodland Hills to be exact.

When my ex and I were having problems we met with him and we both found him to be completely creepy and scary.

He's a complete "True Believer TM " JW first, last and everything in the middle.

Your local congregation elder would be as much help.

Better to see someone that can offer help and counseling from an OBJECTIVE perspective.
