If one billion is even enought.
Just read some good books on mental health and fix yourself.

Do all therapists need to be qualified? Here in Australia its illegal for a person who is not qualified to call him/herself a psychologist, but they can still be part of the industry in a lesser role.
I agree with NightOwl.

Not all mental health problems can be solved by reading a book. Sometimes there are physical health problems that need to be assessed and sometimes there are chemical imbalances in the brain that need medication.
People who might benefit from counseling should find someone who is licensed to practice. This does afford you the knowledge that he or she is educated in his field and that he or she belongs to a board of licenced practitioners. If complaints are made to the certification board a practioner belongs to they could lose their lisence to practice.

In Canada it is similar. Anyone can put out a sign and say they are a therapist of some soirt as long as they don't claim to be a legitimate kind of counselor. So they could not claim to be a psychologist or socail worker of even a Lisenced Family Counselor. But they can use a generic term like therapist or counselor as long as they don't specify a kind of therapist. They aslo would not be eligible to get professional insurance in case someone tries to sue them.

I plan to start a thread concerning this issue. I do not know when, because my time on this forum is limited to a couple of days.
I hope to show that most issues concerning mental health begin with thoughts concerning our own "self image" but our focus as humans tends to be on the image that others have about us, which should have nothing to do with who WE are.

Interesting theory, Night Owl, I will look forward to reading your ideas.

They are counseled to break confidentiality if you are an active JW and you are saying things negative about the JWs or confess some "wrong-doing" accoerding to their rules.
I recall reading in a Watchtower from the late 1970s early 1980s (I think) that gave the example of a JW who was a medical receptionist who had access to patient files. She noticed a "sister" had an appointment to see a specialist to consider having an abortion and knew the "sister" was not married. The receptionist is alleged to have approached the sister to urge her to see the elders about the matter which the sister did. The article praised the receptionist's behavior. How convenient that the sister agreed to see the elders. The article did not specifically state what course the receptionist should have then taken had the sister ignored her, but it left no doubt that, if you're a JW, you need to do all you can to ensure the congregation is kept clean. Since that article first appeared, I have heard of no more recent ones delving into the topic of JWs who are working in the health profession.
Given the Watchtower's mentality surrounding confidentiality, I have often wondered how any JW could be a registered health professional such as a psychologist, given their professional practice is governed by strict ethical codes regarding confidentiality. For example, if a registered psychologist breaches confidentiality on any grounds other than safety, they can be reported to their professional body.
That sounds like a violation of the HIPAA Law.
It is a violation I finally found the article I was referring to. It isn't written by me. It is written by Scully
