You're Never Good Enough

    Of course I can.

There is a scripture that says God is unchanging. There are verses that say laws were given due to the hard-heartedness of the people; rather than because of the will of God. There are multiple verses that state that Christ is the image of God. The Word of God. The Truth.

I can't look them up at the moment as I am on my way out the door. But they're all there. You just have to understand what they mean.

    Peace,

    tammy

You mean you didn't love those "experiences" of the 80 year old African sister that walked two hours and swam across a crocodile infested river to get to the Kingdom Hall? You didn't find them encouraging?

    What's wrong with you?

Check out this comment from the ICSA website explaining Why Cultic Groups Can Harm Children (or anyone else for that matter):

Cultic groups foster unhealthy forms of dependency by focusing on submission and obedience to those in authority. Research studies, most notably the work of Dr. Paul Martin and associates (Martin et al., 1992), demonstrate that psychologically abusive groups tend to create a state of anxious dependency in their members. Such a state maximizes the leadership’s capacity to control members in a variety of ways. The leadership’s subtle manipulations and/or forceful demands are reinforced by a system of rewards or punishments that always are changing, sometimes with different reactions to the same “offense.” This constant need to serve the leadership in the face of changing doctrine prevents members from becoming complacent and fosters a sense of anxious dependency. Hence, they are always trying to please while never feeling that they measure up. - Emphasis added

Such an environment is the opposite of what the psychological community would recommend for the rearing of children.

They should just introduce the Rosary and be done with it.

I remember a WT article years ago about some missionary who was beaten to a pulp by a mob.

The WT quoted him as "thanking Jehovah for his undeserved kindness."

I remember thinking that if I lived to be 1000 I would never have that level of devotion.

In retrospect, I doubt that a story like that would inspire anyone.

Instead, it would make them feel like a worm by comparison.

Maybe having a 16penny carpenter's nail hanging around our necks would have been a more fitting symbol.

My purpose in creating this thread is to help JWs who are worn out and feeling like failures.

You aren't alone, and if it would help you to talk with people who understand, feel free.

It really is amazing, once we learn TTATT we realize that in reality, being a JW is very nearly the exact opposite of what it is advertised to be: The Happiest People on Earth!

If you haven't seen it, the jwfacts website has a very interesting article about this fallacious bit of WT Propaganda:

    Watchtower Quotes Regarding

Jehovah's Witnesses being the Happiest People on Earth

There is also a very interesting article on Mental Illness among JWs with links to what research is available:

    Christ Alone

I have found that people in the Bible did not struggle with this feeling like Jehovhas witnesses do. Moses had feelings of not being good enough, yet God told him that he was good enough with God's help. The feelings of never being good enough come from the Watchtower and other men organizations, not God. He is always there to tell us that we are good enough when Jesus Christ's sacrifice is applied to us.
