Breastfeeding your child until they are 8 years old

Right in the good ole USA I once sat as guest at a kitchen table while the 8-year-old boy of another guest began begging his mother for fresh milk. Then and there she opened her blouse and let this little boy stand beside her and take all he wanted. That got the 7-year-old sibling going. He got the other teat. They both stood there sucking her dry for a few minutes. She continued holding conversation at the kitchen table through the entire episode.
It’s not every day you get to observe something like that!
I almost forgot to mention the mother was daughter to the congregation presiding overseer. It was an affluent family. This incident occurred in the early 1980s.
Edit: After posting this I recalled the older of these two boys works to this day at Bethel in the Service Department.

It's not every day that you get to experience "crunchy granola" to that degree.
I heard of one patient who almost died of postpartum hemorrhage, insisting that her husband and baby suckle her breasts to induce her uterus to contract.
My personal feeling is that once a kid starts taking solid food, can walk, gets potty trained and starts nursery school, breastfeeding is "for" the mother more than it is for the child. At that point, it's creepy.

There was a sister in our hall who breast fed her child long past the norm. The child was tall enough to stand and nurse in the back room while the mother carried on a conversatin with the other sisters back there. She claimed she did this becaue the girl had pulled a scalding hot pot of coffee over on herself as a todler and nursing helped her deal with the trauma of having skin grafts. Many of the sisters claimed it was because the mother enjoyed having larger breasts and didn't want to give them up.
What do you want to bet the girls in the video are home schooled and Mom belongs to a food Co-Op ?
There are worse things than this but these parents who turn their kid into a project kinda get under my skin and the kids usually turn out a bit odd.

In many under-developed countries, children are weaned at 6 years old. Many people think that anything over a certain age is "for the mother", but in reality, breastmilk changes over time to accomodate the nutritional and immunological needs of the child as it grows. This is why breastmilk pumped and frozen when the child is a month old isn't as nutritionally complete for that child when it's thawed for that child at 3 months old. While it's unheard of in the US and other "high-tech" countries where boobs have become so sexualized that a huge number of people choose to feed chemical-laden formula instead of breastmilk because they are uncomfortable with the thought of a child suckling on their boobs, in other countries it's common for older children to nurse.
It's not for everyone, and some who were raised on formula or a strict age limit on breastfeeding wouldn't "get it". I was breastfed until I was almost 3. There is still nutritional value for a child who eats solids as well as breastmilk. I'd rather my child have breastmilk, which is formulated naturally for human children, than cow's milk which is formulated for baby cows.
That said, I wouldn't go so far as to allow my eight year old to nurse. I wouldn't allow a child older than about 4, I would say. The woman in the OP also had her husband nursing off of her as well (there's more to that documentary and I've seen it before), which I think is just plain freaking weird.

It is probably time to give up breast feeding when your children start naming your nipples.

I would think the child would be embarrassed about it too. I'm sure if their friends found out about it,they would be teased merciously.
