Three percent? Wow. I knew it was bad, but never had a number. So if you had a 97% chance that the violence would continue, how can it EVER be sane to encourage someone to stick with it? And why is no one focusing on any children? WT doesn't mention anything---and I don't know if they ever have. Yes, leave your children in a violent situation. They are learning afterall---either to be abusers or to take abuse. Oh wait---that would make them perfect WT fodder. Carry on.

NC thats' terrible. This kind of topic makes my blood boil, especially when people don't take it seriously like the watchtower has done in this article.
This kind of article enables abuse to continue unpunished unless the someone is willing to break watchtower protocol and go to the police.

I saw Reba McIntyre on Donahue many many years ago. I'm with her on her philosophy. She said, "If a man ever raised his hand to hit me, I'd be out of there. Even if he didn't hit me, he's shown me he has the potential to."

I know it is a slim hope but the shocking information in the article could cause some in the audience to silently reflect upon the 'meat in due season' and realize it stinks. After all, no one is forcing them to agree with the article - although clearly if you express dissent you'll be frowned upon or worse. Never underestimate the power of a disturbed conscience reading the article and listening to the parrots recite the "truth".

I don't remember where it was, but years ago I read something WT that basically told wives if they knew where their husband's violent buttons were, they shouldn't push them.

My ex (now) husband and I studied with an elder and his wife. The elder was going over the valid reasons for separation, and he said physical violence was one if you felt your life was in danger. I looked him straight in the eye and said, "Any time physical violence is involved, your life is in danger, right?" He hesitated but then agreed. Maybe he just wanted to keep the study, I don't know. But even when I was 'in', I carried that with me and never bought the whole take it attitude.

So maybe if hit an elder with my car, he should be more loving toward me?

NC, I heard the same thing as I brought up once to my study conductor about my first stepfather as we were discussing separating and divorce, and he said the same about being able to separate if you felt your life was in danger.
I was only 14 at the time and I thought it was just stupid that she could leave if her life was in danger, but couldn't divorce and move on with her life. She had to still stay married to the prick and hope he cheated on her so she could divorce without threat of disfellowshipping.

When I read things like this, it makes me realise how many things I disagreed with growing up in this religion yet still believed it to be the truth as far as god, armageddon, new system etc.

I too hope at least some will read this article and it will play on their minds. I'm sure anyone who just rocked up to the hall out of curiosity would be appalled by it.
