This is how not to remain awake spiritually. It is a distraction. While you are busy reading a book that is out of date for 99.8% of us all, listening to rubbish about avoiding sex and apostates at all costs, and hounded to do more in field circus, your real spiritual needs are being neglected. This is all a distraction--were you part of a deal, pact, or class? Chances are good that none of us are part of that class--as such, trying to figure out how it fits you is a waste of your time.

And, in the meantime, you are neglecting real spirituality. You could be keeping up with what is going on in the world, from various sources, and preparing for hardships that are coming while you still can. Are you taking advantage of every time they knock down silver? They can only keep that up so long before they are going to create a shortage, and they will get squeezed. Hyperinflation will follow. And, while you were wasting time worrying about a few LIE-ble characters or listening to a talk about missing meetings, your silver buying time will run out.

Another thing you could do is actual studying the truth behind all right hand path religions. Do any of them actually teach you how the soul works, or do they simply teach that you should yield to anyone that would enslave you? To be spiritually strong, you need to know how the soul works and be able to get things to work properly. If you are not at least aware of this, you are in fact spiritually asleep--even if you are pious-sneering, always obey the Filthful and Disgraceful Slavebugger, read the LIE-ble and the littera-trash faithfully, and never miss a boasting session.

16- Yet, with skill and kind persistence, you may be able to raise an intriguing question that awakens the householder’s interest in spiritual things (TM)

Oooh! This is a two way street. Imagine the JWs calling on an unknown 'mentally diseased apostate'(TM).

JW: Don't you agree we need a new world with a Panda?

MDA: Explain without using the watchtower how you get to 1914.

JW: Hasta lavista baby, I'll be back!

Thanks Blondie for the well-written and informative post, I'm new round these parts so I dont know if this is a semi-regular thing but I'd love to read more WT articles debunked...I haven't picked up a WT or Awake since I was basically physically forced to (probably around age 15 or so, Im 28 now), but i remember pointing out the hypocrisies to myself in my head (out load would just be asking for more abuse), but of course I didnt care enough actually do any research on any of it...that would mean 'sacrificing' more of my time to the b.s. But now as a University student I really appreciate the research you put into it and the obvious hypocrisies it reveals.

And as for what Zid said earlier about the negative-positive speach thing, I almost forgot about that little 'trick'. I've alwasy been good at English and grammar studies and whatnot, and I have always absolutely HATED when anyone uses the word 'not' when presenting a question, rhetorical or otherwise. "Did jesus not tell us blablabla" ....well if he did NOT tell us that then why are we saying he did...and if he he DID tell us that, then NO he did not NOT tell that thing he just told us. I remember vividly on more then one occasion my father asking me "Did I not tell you ___" and of course he did tell me ___ so the only truthful answer I could give was 'No, you didn't NOT tell me ____' this was well before I knew what sarcasm was and I was just trying my hardest NOT to lie, but, you guessed it....'that's a paddlin'.
