Let me introduce myself

OK, todays the day I introduce myself. I've been reading
as a "lurker" for a couple of months. I have really enjoyed
reading the comments on the board.
Now, about me. I am married for 18 years to the love of my
life. She was born into the JW religion and we live the life-
style. We've never celebrated Christmas or had birthday parties
for our children. My wife was babtised after our first child was
born, and she also arranged for a bible study for me. I studied
with a broher for about a year. I had started reading "apostate" literature and discussed my concerns with my wife and this brother.
It was not long after I discussed this matter with him that this brother decided we had studied long enough. I agreed also.
The sticking point with me was and still is that the GB insists on being called the direct channel of God. I still go to Sunday meetings with my wife but nobody really bothers me with anything else.
I feel like I am a balancing point for my children. All three children are involved in sports at school but do refrain from some school activities(flag and pledge).
This site is a great thing for me. I like to read how other people have delt with issues and feelings I've had for years.
I have recentley corresponded with some really great people like Randy W. and look forward to corresponding with many more.
Hopefully I can share some personal thoughts with other members of this board. I have never really been able to talk to other people about the way I feel and how the JW's affect my life.

I think it's great that your children have you around, they can see both sides, and maybe, decide that the JW life style is not necessarily the only one, or the best one...

Welcome blindfool (odd screen name, you hardly seem like a blind fool, instead, you are checking things out for yourself). I read your story with interest; I'll look forward to hearing more from you. You started out here the same way I did - some months of lurking, them entering the fray, lol. Welcome!

I'll explain the blindfool name:
After reading some "apostate" literature on the WTBTS the scripture
Matthew 23:17 really seemed to apply to the society.
This has since always been one of the scriptures that means a lot to me.
When I read posts from people like Amazing and Dog Patch, I see a corrolation to Jesus telling the Pharisees that he will send them great teachers and wise men but they will crucify and kill (disfellowship or disassociate) them. Read Matthew 23:13-36 and see if this seems like the WTBTS to you?

I wish I could say this story is a rare event, but it's not. The Watchtower keeps family members hostages, and that's why about 30% of the so called JWs are still JWs.

The day they stop this policy - they will have a real helthy decrease - and they can't afford that. It's about a lot of money, and money is what makes this organization go round - as every other multi national corporation.

Hang in there! As long as you're around you have the oportunity to let your children hear the other side of the story. Why should you deny them being kids? Why deny them the fun of having parties, celebrate birth-days etc?

With your help they might escape the living hell of growing up as a JW. Ask me - I've done it!
