IT is great to be truly free. Things with me have been great since leaving the WT. I have set aside the feeling that Jehovah is going to kill me if I do not atone to the rantings of an organization. The organization offers false security and hopes. Proverbs 13:12 says: Expectation postponed is making the heart sick, but the thing desired is a tree of life when it does come.

The WT from the begenning has misled people with false hopes and dates and has offered them something that only God can give. When we come to grips with this, we are on our way to true freedom.

The leaders and past presidents of the WT, I am sure will be held accountable for their misguided dogma and bad treatment of innocent individuals.

We're much happier now than when we were JWs
I have a much better job - coincidence? Maybe it's because it's *ok* to have a career.
We have better friends - fewer but *real*. If we were more outgoing I'm sure we'd have more. I can actually become friends with people at work now...go out with them etc...
We can buy the kids presents at Birthdays and Christmas without feeling guilty.
There aren't the guilt trips about enjoying sex so it has improved no end (although I like to think that it is really down to me...)
We aren't rushing to get to meetings every other night, things are more relaxed.
We don't have any worries about being *destroyed at Armeggedon* - the future is ours to shape.
We know our kids will not be hurt by a cult like we were.

When I see my neighbors running three times a week to the meetings, I feel sorry for them, but free for us.
We still have to find some new friends, but thats just a question of time...
Our family cut down contact with us, which is hard to take. They are extremly strict, I don't think they gonna change their mind in the future. That takes a part of the new happiness away...

    JAVA,

I won't go further because the others are serious about the changes in their life. However, if you want to see my latest brand of humor go to the Heresy of the Month. It has been much fun.

On a more serious note, I found two people at another place who were looking for help and I sent them here and both are very grateful. Makes me feel real good.

Oh, heck I can't leave yet. I want to get Satan Today and I am going to start a magazine myself, as a counter point the Awake. I'm going to call it Asleep. On the mast head it will say "I don't what what happened I was Asleep at the time." One of the major articles in the first issue will be "I didn't know Armagedden happened I was asleep at the time." Another article will be about how to sleep your way through the pioneering experience. Also, how to use Bush's fuzzy math when you turn in time. On this subject, I will be interviewing you in order to get discernment regarding your time at the coffee shop. One other good subject I want to address in my first issue, is, how to sleep through a meeting with your eyes wide open. I may follow this up with a special training seminar.

Well, I think I went too far. Just let the other folks know we a been doin right fine since we all turned up and left.

Sorry Simon and others. I'm not making fun of your serious comments. I thought they were very well put.

I hope some on the list don't think I'm making fun of the topic introduced by peaceloveharmony, I'm not. I appreciate and enjoy reading how folks get a life beyond the Tower.

As most of us know, the Society paints all people as followers of Satan if they're not JWs. One way of showing the craziness of that is using satire to show its absurdity. Satire is a writing style that uses an ounce of truth to expose a ton lies or blunders. It forces the reader to look at the issue, and see the results if carried to an end point. These results are often humorous but pointed. My friend larc uses this from time to time, too. I guess we travel in the same gutter.

    JAVA,

Oh and by the way, I think we are happy to know we can use other publications, to look things up if we don't know (you definition of satire). And by the way your satire is very funny. Laughter is good medicine. And one more thing, I'M HAPPY I CAN LAUGH AT MY JW EXPERIENCE, because it was not so funny about 10 mos. ago.

    Happy to be Free (Me)

Definitely better. I can now read Stephen King novels without worrying that I'll be struck dead for "communing" with someone who does not write about godly, upbuilding things.

I don't have to sit through endless repetitions of regurgitated doctrine three times a week, nor do I have to try to rationalize "new light, old light revisited, new light" anymore.

I can now investigate various belief systems and decide for myself what has value to ME and my life.

    Hey Red,

About 23 yrs. ago, I went to a jw roller skating party with my kids. Previously, I had tried roller skating with the resulting comment from my first husband: "Any fool who puts 8 wheels on her feet and doesn't know what she's doing deserves to be in pain." And, oh, I was. Sooooo, the next party, I took kids and a Stephen King novel, drank a coke. Sister saw what I was reading and said "I don't know how you have the time! *I* keep busy reading theocratic literature - not demons." (I was careful - it wasn't one of his demon ones.)

The friends for years have hidden novels they read. Lately, it was getting better - some would even exchange "healthy" novels.

Like you, now I read what I want, if I want. What freedom. Speaking of freedom of speech, thinking, reading, etc. That's a new one for me, living in the good ol' south usa. The sisters who move from the north are in culture shock for about 3 yrs. Like moving back to the 50's. No joke. They whisper about it to each other, but the elders and brothers pretty much keep 'em quiet.

I was fortunate that my husband didn't buy into this crap, but the KH elders really do, and most southern sisters. So, the net has been a new experience for me - an equality of sorts. Really marvelous. Not to be found in southern KH's, imo.
