The Witchtower is being more careful now about putting a date

out there for the beginning of the Great Tribulation. I think that

they have learned their lesson from 1975. However they sure

like to throw the word "soon" around. Every meeting and almost

every prayer it is mentioned that soon God will destroy his enemies.

The meaning of this word is different to a Witness versus a non-Witness.

I saw a quote from an article in the Watchtower from 20 years ago

that said that God's kingdom would SOON usher in a paradise earth.

To a Witness it was soon then and this event is still soon. If I were to tell

my wife excitedly that I am taking her to Europe soon would she be happy

if I waited 3 years? How about 20 years? She would be upset and call be a liar.

If I told my boss at work that I was going to quit my job soon would he wait

6 months to start finding a replacement? How about 20 years? He would call me a liar.

If my wife told the elders at the KH that she was going to start pioneering soon,

would they expect her to do so in several months or wait 20 years? They would say

that she lied to them. The Watchtower should say instead of SOON, in God's due time,

sometime in the future, when God is ready.

We are God's children. What would you child think if you told them that you will take

you to Disney World soon. What would soon mean to them? My guess is if not

this year then next year at the latest. I doubt that would be happy if soon was

20 years later. I guess that soon does not have a starting point nor an ending

point, just an awareness that it is soon.

It's closer than the inside of your eyelids.

Seriously, it's just a word used to keep JWs fearful so they don't leave just in case God decides to wake up and bring on the Big A.

Since inception over 130 years ago they've been on about this. 130 years is NOT soon.

Many Christians believe Christ is going to return soon. 2000+ years ain't soon either.

Interestingly everybody thought the world would end in 1000AD, in England the King produced the Doomsday book on advice of learned bible scholars. The apotles also thought the end would come in their lifetime in the first century, it would appear everybody reads the same message and figuring out it applies to them. Either the author has done a poor job being clear, or everybody is a poor read, i cant tell which is true.

Soon still works into the minds of people, to keep them in a state of fear which is the main ingredient to create power and control for the WTS. over people.

100 years from now they will still be saying soon and probably have a picture of great atomic disaster on the front cover of one their magazines.

The marketing formula the WTS. uses to attract people to their organization and turn these ones into obedient and subservient slaves, has been set in

stone so to speak, all the new incoming leaders (GB) have to do is rehash the doctrines that have already been expressed and people will absorb it

    like they've always have.

*** w99 7/15 p. 18 par. 9 Anchored by Hope, Impelled by Love ***A few dedicated Christians in some parts of the world appear to have reefed the sails of their ship of faith. The ship is still afloat, but instead of forging ahead in full faith, they have adopted a cruising speed. Drawn by the hope of “Paradise soon,” some were prepared to spare no efforts to attain it—zealous in the preaching work and regular in attendance at all meetings, assemblies, and conventions. Now thinking that the realization of their hopes is farther off than they anticipated, they have lowered the price they are willing to pay. This is evident in reduced preaching activity, irregularity at meetings, and willingness to miss parts of assembly or convention programs. Others are devoting more time to recreation and to obtaining material comforts. These facts lead us to consider what should be the driving force in our lives in line with our dedication to Jehovah. Should our zeal in his service be dependent on the hope of “Paradise soon”?

    ---------------------

But the WTS wants it both ways, that jws not hope that it be soon and be ready to accept that it is farther off than "the WTS" anticipated.

Since the WTS expressed doctrines from its very beginning weren't solidly created, other than for their commercial appeal

to attract attention to its literature, the organization has now some real problems on their hands trying keep that self purposed

image that god has chosen their organization and their organization alone to preach "The Truth".
