SilentScream: But there is evidence for abiogenesis, for instance how easily amino acids form on earth (which life is build of), that life started out very simple and then grew more complex, etc. etc.

The evidence is just not strong enough to test (or even suggest) a particular theory, primarily because a bit of organic goo 3-4 billion years ago leave little trace.

So what is the point of this thread if it is not about god?

A puddle of goo one second, a living organism the next.

An athiest would have to believe in this miracle, without believing in the miraculous... I do not possess such faith.

We don't have the answers yet. Can you be comfortable with that?

So you have faith that there will be answers in the future, but you have no evidence right now? So how can you believe something living can come from something nonliving with no proof?

But you would HAVE to conclude something living got started from something non-living, correct? I don't know that I have to conclude anything. It would not be good science to exclude all possiblities before exploring them. I supppose eventually it could lead back to that, but how, I don't know. There are some interesting theories, but no real answers yet. I resist the urge to fill in the gap with something that I have no evidence for. It's tough not to do, but that's what we do. NC

Silent_Scream: Again, what is the point of this thread? there is no evidence for any particular idea for how life originated on earth -- do you disagree with that conclusion? why do you need to be affirmed in the obvious?

what is the point of this thread if NOT that you are suddenly going to swing around and insert: "...so therefore magic man did it!"

A Quick "Theory" Is Many of the Items in Space.... Comets Planets Astriods ect.... Have Different Elements contained in them.............

Add a little of this and that and Wham Bam! They collide giving different Elments among them..... then they meet 2 freind Ect Ect..........

I am saying we don't have the answers yet. There is a lot of research to suggest it is possible, but this is only the beginning. Perhaps all theories will be falsified, and then other options will have to be considered. It's not that I have faith that the answers will be forthcoming, it's simply that I know they are looking for the answers and we don't have them yet.

Every single thread anti/pro theism goes into talk of evidence. Thats what I see constantly, no evidence of a God. Science must at least have some type of evidence to form a theory. Etc. FAIR ENOUGH!

I refuse to use the argument, you can't prove there is no God. That's fallacious.

So, I would like to see the evidence of ANY POSSIBLE ALTERNATIVES.

    This is the double standard:

Due to lack of observations science can only make vague guesses of how life originated, all of these are likely to get significant details wrong.

Christians argue that due to lack of evidence, abiogenesis can be "rejected" (lets ignore this does not follow for the moment)

At the same time they suggest one particular idea, "magic man spoke to dirt and made life!", with no good scientific evidence and suggest we should just ignore we just rejected all other explanations due to lack of evidence and just accept it as true because, you guessed it, the other ideas had no good evidence.
