I heard someone say that Caleb has made an appearance in a Watchtower. Could we list that as a source? It's the most widely read thrown away magazine in the world. I know that Youtube doesn't usually qualify as a source, but could we link to the take down notice identifying the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society of Pennsylvania?

Yes, Caleb is in the "My Bible Lessons" feature of the August 1st, 2012 edition of the Watchtower, pages 24-25.

This feature is specifically designed for children "Ages 3 and Under".

In the feature, Caleb writes a letter to a friend that is sick. So obviously Caleb must be older, at least 6 or 7 years old to write (assuming he's not a WT prodigy like Andre, but I digress). This would fit in with the way Caleb is portrayed in the video. Although the are few clues as to his exact age, he says that he got Sparlock from a friend at school. Although that could possibly be pre-school, the general overall behaviors of Caleb in the video are consistent with a child of about 8-10 years old.

It is interesting that the WTBTS would have an older child serve as a role model for children 3 years and under, (and by extension to the JW parents that would attempt to implement this feature as a way to teach their very small children).

As a professional educator all I can say is that, in spite of the obviously messed up priorities of what to teach a young child (ie. obedience, instead of qualities like cooperation, or imagination), the WTBTS clearly does not know what age-appropriate teaching is.

The referenced scripture is 1 Peter 3:8:

Finally, all of YOU be like-minded, showing fellow feeling, having brotherly affection, tenderly compassionate, humble in mind

That's some pretty deep stuff for an infant 3 or younger.

    • Q: How many toddlers are humble? Compassionate? Know what "fellow-feeling" or "like-mindedness" are?
    • A: None. Most adults struggle with these concepts.

What a surprise. Once again the WTBTS attempts to teach on subjects about which they are completely unqualified. A bunch of high-school educated (or less) egotists attempting to represent themselves as early-childhood education and developmental experts.

I'm thinking this is another example of their fraudulent behavior. Not illegal, but certainly unethical.

Here is the link to the Wikipedia article I started.

If any experienced WP users have ideas to make this better feel free. I have limited time to work on it myself.

"My Bible Lessons" - WT feature for infants 3 and Under

For those that are interested in discussing the broader issues concerning the WT's agenda to indoctrinate children, particularly the very young, I created a related thread addressing the relatively new WT feature "My Bible Lessons". These two page "lessons" which appear in the Public version of the WT about every three months are specifically designed for infants "Age 3 and Under" and their parents.

Caleb of Sparlock fame made his debut in the most recent MBL.

Firstly, The Watchtower isn't a third-party source to indicate any notability of Caleb. Secondly, Sparlock isn't mentioned in The Watchtower. Unless/until Sparlock is covered in third-party reliable sources (such as mainstream news sources or a notable third-party publication; not JW sources, blogs, forums, youtube, etc) Sparlock fails Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion.

Hi 00DAD, could you give us an update on the Wiki-Sparlock project?

I've had an anonymous tip-off that you might have more luck with www.wikispooks.com. It's a smaller audience, but they might grant you more latitude.

    Just a thought!

That's a great start 00DAD, I hope it gets accepted.

I would remove the "evidently" in the second paragraph though. It's not necessary (The GB member explicity stated that intention in the video, so it could be cited as the source) and it sounds slightly Watchtowerish.

I have one bone to pick about the Wiki review:

Jehovahs witnesses are not a religion. They are a high control group. This should be put in place of 'religion'.
