Loved the Walton's, in my early teens. I once brought home the movie The Homecoming, which was the movie that precluded the series. My one jw daughter in particular, I could tell, didn't trust me in that it was ok to watch, because it had Christmas as the background to it, but she absolutely loved it and seemed surprised that it wasn't something they shouldn't have watched after all. I was considered by my kids to be a bad, non-spiritual jw mom and they were pretty brainwashed by the other moms in the cong and what they learned from the pulpit. Poor kids! I wish I had woken up to the what was being done to them in that religion.

Shows that were popular, but on Thursday nights (customary long meeting night) included The Waltons, Welcome Back Kotter, Barney Miller, Chico and the Man, Mork and Mindy, Benson, Buck Rogers, Magnum PI, Simon and Simon, Diffrent Strokes...by the mid 80s most people had a VCR and could now record what you would have otherwise missed on meeting nights. A miracle!

Family was a regular over the air network show on ABC. It was far too worldly for us to watch.

Did any uber-dubs ever look down on you for recording TV shows on meeting nights? Some people used to ask if people who did this also arranged to record the meeting if they missed.

I guess I'm the exception to the rule. I abhorred the show. It was beyond boring and the people were less than attractive. The country hokum made me gag and it only irritated me to hear the narrator yaking all the time. Sorry kids but the show was on way too long and who cared? I guess you guys, I didn't. Ugh.

'Grandpa Walton' Will Geer was gay in real life and 'Grandma' Ellen Corby was also suspected of being lesbian.

Not that theres anything wrong with that.

    Wasn't aware of that, Oz.

Not that it matters, of course.
