How many JWs will leave the organization after viewing the Sparlock video? Estimate

How many JWs have small children?,,5 yrs old and under?,, maybe 10%..most parents,(JW & non-JW), don't want their kids to have warlike toys, so would include a warlock (black art/sorcerer shows in my dictionary). Though, 'Sparlock' was more innocent looking, with just the 'magic' emphasis. Since there is plenty array of toys, most JWs will try for positive/innocent/learning toys. However, most will have no conscience problem with Mickey Mouse (though has that one movie playing a Sorcerer) and Tinkerbell and Disneyland.

Many JWs and most JWs kids are learning to draw 'their own' line little by little, issue by issue. The youth gradually learn to double life with most eventually leaving.

There does develop two classes of JWs; the liberal (growing majority) and conservative (mostly aging). A horrible religion for the children.

If even one gets to thinking about how messed up this religion is and then wakes up and leaves then it's enough!

Cedars: Nobody ever leaves the organization due to one issue alone - it is nearly always the cumulative effect of many individual grievances or pressures.

Agreed. A couple of days ago I wrote an essay on this very subject and it's affect on me personally and my family. If you're interested you can read it here:

I don't think this single event will directly lead to many leaving, but every little bit helps!

As far as reaction to the video by families with children, I see three groups:

10-15% Überdubs - they will throw away all of their kids toys because of this video. If their kid makes a magic wand from a Tinkertoy or a wizardmobile out of Legos, they will toss them in the dumpster (the toys, not the children. . . although you never know)

70-80% Oblivious - these are the parents who will play this DVD followed by Peter Pan and Sleeping Beauty. They don't even get it.

10-15% WTF? - they will play the Sparlock video once, see it for the crap that it is and shelve it. They will 'brazenly' criticize the DVD to like-minded parents in the congregation. They already do not get along well with the Überdubs, and this will widen the rift. You'll hear about these ones as being 'murmurers' at the next circuit assembly.

Unless there is something new in the entertainment arena, I think Sparlock is all about Harry Potter.

I agree that it is unlikely to be the single thing that will get someone to leave however it may be the last straw for some. I remember years ago back when I was a JW having dinner at friends house who still went to the congregation I used to go to. He was telling me the a JW sister that went to that congregation had left over a recent Watchtower article that said it was wrong for a witness to wear heart jewelry. I guess she told her husband that was it. She couldn't take anymore left the lie.

It's a mistake to lump ALL witnesses in one bucket. I agree with breakfast of champions. The extremists will love it and will praise Jah. The majority won't care all that much. And some will awake to the fact that the organization has very little to do with God and a lot to do with control.

Not many.... the ones that are ready to leave will use it as the 'excuse'. ;)

I'm with the others who say '0'.

Most will view the videos once, and it won't even register that there is something wrong. If it does register, it'll be so far down in the noise that they'll just ignore it.

A few I guess. But surely not as many as the UN thing, book study change, Dateline programme, university clampdown, or the generation change.

It's a great shame that Child Protection (Social Services) doesn't monitor material aimed at kids. This stuff (along with other dub stuff) should be approved by childcare professionals.
