My mother always likes things to be exactly the way she thinks they should be. So I've had to endure the following situation (this was years ago, before I was df'd):
At an anniversary party for her and my dad they had a pinata for the children who were in attendance (large family, lotsa grandkids). My son, who is autisitc, was severely uncomfortable with banging the pinata. She tried to tell him that if he didn't take his turn, he wasn't allowed to get any of the treats once it was broken open (considering his disability, this was an insensitive rule). Of course, hubby and I firmly protested her decree, causing the pinata banging to be halted until the situation could be resolved. And yes, our son was allowed to have some of the treats after all.
On the "up" side, due to this episode (which was sonny boy's first experience with a pinata), after I was df'd we had a birthday party for him, and we knew to buy him a pull-string pinata for the party instead of a regular one.
