  In the case of the Magic Eraser, here's the secret of how it works: the white pad is a piece of melamine plastic foam. Melamine (melmac) is a pretty hard plastic, and in use the foam breaks down into little tiny hard abrasive particles. The abrasice particles remove a thin layer of the offensive mark. when you scrub with it.

  I disagree. Parents gripe about music etc. But they don't ban it. I know for a fact that Smurfs were banned in this area because of demunz fear. No way we can brush that off to generation gap! No way. The stories I heard about Smurfs would turn your stomach. The usuals are silly and we make fun of them. But the stories I heard were dark and sick...don't let your child wear Smurf underwear!

  I was adult enough (before the troof) to understand that my daughter would like Smurfs. I didn't think of it as stupid cuz it wasn't popeye. I was enlightened enough to understand that each generation would have a variation on the things I liked as a child. No way I will chalk this up to generation gap.

  Every few years a new "demon" pops up or is invented to bash the believers over the head with..

  I am just old enough to remember that television was once "Satan's gogglebox" in dubland, then rock music and teen culture played into their hands by being rebellious. The bands that now have knighthoods were vilified in the WT and when heavy progressive rock came in ? Wowee! to the writing department at Brooklyn who cribbed every right wing fundy church objection to it.

  Latterly tv soaps, teen films , vampire movies have been targets..this year it is magic. What next??

  As for individual dubs? Some don't care , others are hypersensitive - it all blows over....
